Carol Moore Hickam passed away in Houston on Tuesday, December 21st at the age of 80. She was born September 6 ^th , 1941, in Norwalk, Connecticut to John and Rita Moore. She often spoke fondly of growing up in Ridgefield, Connecticut with her younger brothers Jack and Jim.

During high school, her family moved to Florida where she graduated from Sarasota High School and went on to attend Florida State University. She became a member of Alpha Phi sorority and was the first person in her family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

Shortly after graduating from FSU, Carol joined the United Nations Volunteers. She had never left the country but said goodbye to her home and family to serve as a volunteer in Jordan, where she met her husband Ed in 1965. She and Ed soon settled in Houston and became a part of the Champions community, building their first home, raising a family, and beginning lifelong friendships in the neighborhood they would come to call home and where they would stay until their passing.

Carol was an eager and fearless traveler, and she and Ed traveled the world together, enjoying temporary relocations to Barbados, Alaska, and England, and countless trips and adventures on six continents over five decades. She was always ready for an adventure and never turned down an opportunity to see new places or meet new people. Whether it was volunteering in Jordan in her early twenties, riding out an earthquake in Mexico, learning to ski in her mid-fifties, or taking her kids on an unforgettable tour of Egypt where everything seemed to go wrong, Carol's love of exploration and her quiet courage will remain an inspiration to those who knew her.

Carol was a supportive and loving wife to husband Ed, a dedicated mother to her sons Gene and Bill, and an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren Katelyn, David, Zane, and Kye. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, spoiling them as much as she was allowed. She had a soft spot for animals and lavished attention on her English cocker spaniels, leaving behind her faithful companion Carter. She was a thoughtful and faithful friend who will be missed dearly and not forgotten.

Carol was an active alumnus of Alpha Phi sorority and a member of Champions Golf Club. She was a member of the Champions Garden Club, a former member of the American Women's Club of Surrey and had been room mother, den mother, organizer, booster, and fundraiser too many times to count. She was active in various charitable organizations in Houston and was a supporter of Theater Under the Stars.

Carol was preceded in passing by Ed, her husband of 49 years. She is survived by her brothers Jack Moore and Jim Moore, son Gene and his wife Jaime, son Bill and his wife TJ, and grandchildren Katelyn, David, Zane, and Kye.

A memorial reception will be held at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, on March 26th at 5:00 pm.
