In loving memory of Carol Ann Cody, a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, who peacefully passed away on July 9, 2023.

Born in 1933, Carol was the beloved eldest daughter of Norris and Caroline (Weisenberg) Vandevoorde. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Cody, Sr., in 2016, and her dear sister, Mary Hammill, in 2022. Carol is survived by her three sons: John Jr., Kevin, and Brian. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Cedric, Ian, Juliette, Kevin N., Elsa, and Jonah.

Carol's thirst for knowledge and academic excellence shone through from an early age. She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class and continued her education, ultimately graduating as salutatorian with a major in Mathematics. Carol dedicated herself to the field of education, becoming a remarkable schoolteacher.

Her passion for teaching and desire for adventure led her to accept an overseas assignment in Japan, where she taught the children of American Armed Forces for a year. Following her time in Japan, Carol ventured to England, where she shared her knowledge and compassion with dependent children at another military base.

It was in England that she encountered the love of her life, John Cody. Their hearts intertwined, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together, marrying and welcoming their first son, John Jr., while residing in England.

Carol not only excelled in her teaching career but also exhibited extraordinary strength as a mother. During her husband's deployment to Vietnam in 1967, she raised their three children single-handedly while still maintaining a full-time teaching position. In Fayetteville, North Carolina, during the late 1960s, Carol worked tirelessly as the Mathematics Department Head in a school, actively contributing to race integration of student education.

A passionate advocate for education and a firm believer in the democratic principles that bind us together, Carol was the Office Manager for the Democratic Party in Yavapai County, Arizona. She dreamt of a world where education would flourish for all, and she actively worked towards that goal.

Carol's absence will be profoundly felt by her three sons, six grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. Her infectious smile, unwavering friendship, and selflessness endeared her to everyone fortunate enough to have crossed her path.

May her soul find eternal peace, and may her legacy continue to touch the lives of many.
