Carmen Migdalia Reyes

Carmen Migdalia Reyes, affectionately known as Tita by her grandchildren, passed away on June 7th at the age of 72, surrounded by family and love.

Born on December 16, 1952, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to the late Luis F. Nieves and the late Carmen Ramos, Carmen lived a life defined by deep devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a love that radiated warmth to everyone she met. She was a constant source of support and found joy in expressing love through home-cooked meals and well-chosen gifts.

Carmen was married for 52 years to Edwin Reyes, who lovingly called her Amorcito ("sweetheart"). Together, they raised four children, served their country, and traveled the world.

She was known for her traditional Puerto Rican meals, heart for hospitality, artistic talent, writing ability, and graceful femininity. After many years of federal service — including roles with the U.S. Army South Command Group in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico; the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in Houston, Texas; and the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas — retirement gave her the chance to indulge in her passions: travel, art, crafting, and spending time with her family.

Carmen is survived by her husband, Edwin Reyes; her son, Eddie Reyes, and his wife, LuAnna; her daughters: Leslie Maddox and her husband, Garrett; Julissa Pecherski and her husband, Jan; and Diana El Dahdah and her husband, Paul. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Michael, Cruz, Gabriel, Sadie, Asher, Christian, Luke, and Victor. Carmen is remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Luis "Tite" Nieves and Antonio Nieves.

A celebration of Carmen's life will be held on Monday, June 16th at 10 a.m. at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, Texas 77379. Visitation with light refreshments will begin at 9 a.m. Guests are warmly invited to wear bright colors in accordance with Carmen's wishes and joyful spirit. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. A reception will follow at the home of the Maddox family.

Serving as pallbearers are Eddie Reyes, Christian Reyes, Garrett Maddox, Michael Maddox, Jan Pecherski, and Paul El Dahdah. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to PanCAN ( Pancreatic Cancer Action Network ).

Carmen's love was a steady light in our lives — and that light will never go out.
