Carla Mae Westbye Shaw South "Gamoo" "Meme"

Carla South was born on November 23, 1934 in Madison, Wisconsin and passed away on October 12, 2021, in Taylor, Texas, at the age of 86.

Her family moved to Houston when she was a young child, and she had many happy memories of her early childhood when the extended family shared one house. She and her aunt, Barbie, were especially close due to their 10-month age difference and the amount of time they spent together.

She married Albert Wallace Shaw in 1951 and they had three daughters, Patricia, Linda, and Lisa. After the death of her first husband, she met and married Thomas South.

Throughout her life, she had a strong faith in God and was active in the Lutheran Church and their women's organizations. She helped many people through her volunteer work and fundraising efforts for hospice care, Saafe House for women, and a widow's support group.

She was an excellent seamstress and often made clothes for herself and her young daughters. She was an avid reader for most of her life and passed the love of reading to her daughters and grandchildren. She loved Paddington and Winnie the Pooh and enjoyed watching British mysteries, musicals, and other old movies.

Preceded in death by her two husbands, Albert Wallace Shaw and Thomas South, parents, Harold and Dorothy Westbye, siblings, Robert Westbye and Sonja Hunter, and son-in-law, Glenn Younts.

Survived by her daughters, Patricia Thompson (Kirkley), Linda Younts, and Lisa Busceme (Richard), her grandchildren, Jennifer Smith (Jerry), Stephanie Plummer (Tim), Emily Thompson, Matthew Thompson (Brittany), Amy DeBoer (Anthony), and Erin Laley (Andrew), Great-Grandchildren, Coen Plummer, Barrett Laley, Jack Thompson, Beau Thompson, Riley Smith, and Sam DeBoer, her aunt, Barbara Dean (Billy), and her nephew, Timothy Hunter.
