Obituary

Carla Elaine Mosley, age 63, passed away on August 11, 2021, at the Cornerstone Specialty
Hospital in Clearlake, Texas. Carla was born June 15, 1958, to Winnie Inez Smith Martin and
Coy R. Martin in Odessa, Texas. The Martins moved to Andrews where Carla went to
school. Upon graduation, in 1976, Carla joined the army. She did basic training at Camp Lejeune,
North Carolina, before completing specialty training as a 42E10 Optical Laboratory Specialist in
Denver, Colorado. She was then stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as an optical technician
where she made safety glasses for the paratroopers. Carla was called upon to serve her country
in Kuwait during the Gulf War. After her tour of duty was complete, she was given an honorable
discharge from the armed services and moved back to Odessa.
James (Jamie) Mosley Jr. and Carla had been high school friends but did not start seeing
each other until after she moved back to west Texas. In 1997, they realized and decided they were
lifelong soulmates. On February 14, 2000, the couple traveled to Valentine, New Mexico, where
they were married. Carla chose that day so Jamie would always remember their anniversary. They
were married for 21 years.
In 2017, Carla was diagnosed with kidney disease so the couple decided to move
to Houston where she would have access to the best doctors in the field. Though she fought a
courageous battle, she continued to struggle with this disease until her death earlier this month.
Carla was preceded in death by her father Coy Ray in February 2009, and her mother Inez, in
February of this year.
Carla is survived by her husband, James Mosley, Jr. of Houston, her two sons, Luke and
Laine, and one stepson, James III. She is also survived by her siblings: Patricia Masterson and
husband Fred of Sherman, Kathie Spears of Coleman, Deana Bremerman of Coleman, Coy Martin,
Jr. and wife Lisa of Andrews, and Mark Martin and wife Gaye of Andrews, as well as 10
grandchildren.
