Carla Marie (Steele) McCarty, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19th with family and friends by her side.

Born on April 30, 1943 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Carla was the eldest of two siblings to parents Gordon Steele and Mary Benedetti.  After her Father's tragic passing, the family moved to Long Beach, California in 1952 where she graduated from St. Anthony High School and later attended California State University Long Beach.  During her time at CSULB, Carla met the love of her life Dale and they married in October 1970.  Her greatest joy arrived in 1973 when she gave birth to her son Matthew.

In 1977, the family relocated to Spring, Texas where they planted roots and cultivated lifelong friendships with their neighbors and Carla's co-workers at Kaiser Elementary where she worked as a paraprofessional and secretary.

Carla enjoyed traveling, was an avid reader and lover of animals.  Throughout her life, she had a passion for helping others and spent several years volunteering her time at Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries (TEAM).  More than anything else,  Carla cherished her friends and family - especially her granddaughters, nieces and nephews.  Her zest for living life to the fullest and joyful spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Predeceased by her parents and her husband, Carla's memory will be honored and kept alive by her son Matthew, her brother Gordon and his partner Christine, daughter-in-law Louise, granddaughters Abigail and Charlotte, and a community of friends and family.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church in Tomball on Friday, June 28th at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband Dale in Houston National Cemetery.  Additionally, a Celebration of Carla's Life will be scheduled for a later date.
