Obituary

On Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, Carl L. Sheffield III passed away at the age of 71. Carl was born on June 22nd, 1950 in Beaumont, TX, to Hazel and Carl L. Sheffield Jr., and was the second  of four children. As a child Carl loved being a Boy Scout, swimming in the canals and playing Little League baseball. He graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont in 1968. He then went on to the University of Texas and Lamar University to complete a degree in history. Later he earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Houston.

Carl worked for ExxonMobil for 33 years as a systems analyst in the early days of computers. He met his future wife, Stephanie Mueller, on the hill at Houston's Hermann Park in 1974, and they were married in 1980. They loved attending baseball games at the Astrodome. They were excited to become parents of twins, Patrick and Megan, in 1987. Carl said he had never changed a diaper before he was a dad, but he changed many after. He spent much time driving the kids to dance classes and ball games, and sharing his love of Star Trek, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings with them.

He loved rock and roll and folk music, attending many concerts and becoming familiar with the local music scenes in Austin and Houston in the '60s and '70s. He amassed a large collection of recorded music and video. Carl was also a fan of the Houston Astros and of books about World War II. He got in the "hot seat" for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in 2000, and never looked at a box of Grape Nuts the same way again. After he retired Carl enjoyed reading, working on family genealogy and watching Hallmark movies.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sharon. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Stephanie; his son Patrick, daughter-in-law Jennifer and granddaughter Evelyn Rose, of Plano, TX; his daughter Megan Sheffield; his brother, Gayle Sheffield, and his sister, Maggie Chafey.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 20th, 2021, at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, TX. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 21st, 2021 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18511 Klein Church Road in Spring.
