Carl E. Gerhardt was born on March 28, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas and went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2022, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert W. Gerhardt, mother Eva Lee J. Gerhardt and brother Ralph D. Gerhardt.

Carl was a member of Ancestry.com and has built a genealogical family tree for anyone interested. He was a 1963 graduate of Highlands High School and later San Antonio College. He then attended University of Texas at San Antonio, where he was a few credits short of achieving his bachelor's degree due to his move to Houston. He was married on February 12, 1966, to his wife Linda for 56 years. He started his career as a meter reader for City Public Service Board and later became a real-time software programmer for them. He spent several years programming power plant applications at the V.H. Braunig Power Plant in San Antonio, Texas. In 1986, he was hired by the Compaq Computer Corporation in Houston as manager of their DOS operating system until 2001. He then became a Software Project Manager for Hewlett Packard. He retired in 2012, opening the next chapter of his life in community service.

He served as the president of the Westwood Landowner's Association for 15 years, a member of the FM 1488 Association for 6 years, and Chairman of the Westwood Magnolia Parkway Improvement District from 2005 until his death. He was also a member of the Magnolia Rotary Club, where he served as their webmaster and treasurer, contributing many hours to the betterment of the community. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award in 2013 by the Magnolia Rotary Club for "Service above self", and the Rotarian of the Year award on June 28, 2022.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda C. Gerhardt, son Larry W. Gerhardt and his wife Vijia, daughter Sheryl l. Thompson and her husband Mark, brother Alton R. Gerhardt and his wife Eva, grandsons Larry W. Gerhardt II, Christopher R. Gerhardt, and Devon Thompson, and granddaughter Ashley M. Thompson. He also had 2 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
