Obituary

Cari Cox Horton passed away on September 16, 2024, two days shy of her 65th birthday. She was born on September 18, 1959 to H.B. Cox and Glenna Carol (Weeks) Cox. The family moved several times in her younger years, but eventually settled in Northwest Houston where she attended and graduated from Cy-Fair High School. She enjoyed being an active member of the Cy-Fair Brigade dance team during her time there.

Cari attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) and The University of Texas at Austin before starting her career at Compaq Computer Corporation. It was there where she met Steven Berg who she married. She and Steven gave birth to their son Derek in 1989. Her marriage to Steven ended, but she continued her unwavering devotion to Derek as a single mother.

Cari was an avid supporter of Derek's pursuit of acting during his school years which led them to Los Angeles for a while which they both enjoyed. Cari spent the last eleven years as the Secretary of Spring Creek Church of Christ in Tomball, TX. Her caring heart blessed those she worked with, the members of the congregation, and those she served through the church's food pantry. Cari was known for her wonderful, welcoming smile and her love for Jesus.

Cari reconnected with her high school boyfriend, Max Horton, and they married in 2010. She and Max enjoyed being active members of Spring Creek Church of Christ together. They were both proud Cy-Fair Bobcat alumni and you would often see them at the football games supporting the team.

Cari was preceded in death by her parents H.B. and Glenna (Weeks) Cox, and husband Max Horton. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Derek Cox-Berg; brother, Koby Cox and wife Jenise; nephew, Payton Cox and wife Courtney; niece, Kelsey Cox; great-nieces, Joy and Lucy Cox; and numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
