Captain Aaron Rios

Born in Chicago and raised in Pearland, Texas, Captain Aaron Rios was a man of family, faith and a deep love for his community. His journey to becoming a firefighter began at an early age, a dream that would not only shape his career but also impact the lives of many others. He graduated from Pearland High School and continued his education at San Jacinto College and College of the Mainland, always with his eyes set on his future in the fire service.

Aaron was a man of boundless passions and quiet joys. He found immeasurable happiness watching his son, Aaron Jr., play baseball and made it a personal mission to visit a new Major League Baseball stadium every year. Whether grilling in his backyard, cruising the open seas, or walking his beloved dog, Henry, Aaron exhibited a zest for life in everything he did. His family was his greatest joy, and his love for them was evident in every moment they shared. Love, laughter, delicious food, and very often some gentle ribbing about all those cigars he bought but never smoked always filled gatherings at the Rios home.

Captain Rios devoted his life to serving others through his career with the Houston Fire Department, rising to the rank of Captain. He cherished the camaraderie of the firehouse and took great pride in mentoring younger firefighters, helping them hone their skills and grow in their craft. Aaron's compassion for others and leadership skills shine through in the outpouring of letters he received from colleagues and friends whose lives he touched.

Above all, Aaron cherished his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife Erika and their two children, Nicole and Aaron Jr., who were his greatest pride and joy. He is also survived by his loving parents Hilda and Abelio Rios; his sister Monica Perez, her husband Jimmy and their children Jaylyn, Mariah, Maddox and Madelyn; and his brother Lieutenant Edgar Rios (formerly of HFD, now with the Pearland Fire Department), his wife Vanessa and their sons Isaiah, Jordan, and Kevin. Aaron was preceded in death by his grandparents, Aurelio Villarreal and Bertha Martinez Villarreal, Abelio Rios Sr., and Manuela Esperanza Rios.

Aaron's legacy is love, service, and devotion to those he held dear. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Still, he always made time to create lasting memories — whether cheering at a baseball game, exploring new places, or savoring a beer and barbecue with loved ones.

The Rios family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support they have received during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a source of comfort and strength, and they are thankful for each and every one of you.
