Calvin Lee Oestreich

September 22, 1948 – March 2, 2022.

Calvin Lee Oestreich joined our Heavenly Father on March 2, 2022.  He was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 22, 1948.  Calvin voluntarily enlisted in the United States Navy upon graduation from Jefferson Davis High School in 1967. This was the height of the Vietnam War.

Calvin served in the Mobile Riverine Force (Task Force 117), a patrol boat and troop transport operation. His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance of duty in 1969 while engaged in armed conflict in Vietnam's Mekong Delta region. The Citation states, "Surprise attacks and routine fire fights on the narrow streams and canals were an almost daily occurrence."  He worked as an Electrician's Mate and achieved the ranking of Petty Officer, Second Class.  He served on the U.S.S. Oriskany, U.S.S. Nueces, and U.S.S. Yellowstone.  In 1971, Calvin was honorably discharged from the Navy.

He obtained an Associates Degree in Refrigeration Design and Construction from San Jacinto Junior College and worked for commercial refrigeration companies in Houston.  Although tired from working all day, Calvin also taught night classes in refrigeration and electricity at a junior college for three years.  In 1986, Calvin and two of his business partners took a big risk and started their own business, Tri-Temp Refrigeration.  Through hard work and determination, Tri-Temp opened offices in Houston and Dallas and had 55 employees and 35 trucks.  Calvin retired from Tri-Temp in 2015.

In 1970, Calvin married the love of his life, Sandra Jean Oestreich.  Calvin and Sandra worked closely in a committed partnership and enjoyed over 51 years of marriage together!  Calvin was so proud of their children, Timothy Oestreich and his wife Sydney, and Melissa Shelby and her husband Timothy Shelby, and grandchildren, Ethan Oestreich, Grant Shelby, and Hudson Shelby.

Calvin came from a large family and loved his siblings dearly.  He is survived by his sisters, Gloria Jean Rhodes, Katherine Byrd, Lana Erhard, and Debra Todaro, his brother Melvin Oestreich, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Oswald Oestreich and Linda (Hetzel) Oestreich and sisters Nadine Solice and Brenda Johnson.

Calvin and Sandra dedicated themselves to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  When they were younger, Calvin and Sandra served as Sunday School teachers and taught children's church together.  Later, Calvin served as a Sunday School teacher for adults and seniors. He loved researching the Word of God and led numerous in-depth Bible studies.
