Bruce Edward Taylor

Surrounded by his loving family, Bruce Edward Taylor passed this life to be with the Lord on March 17, 2018.  Bruce will be forever missed by his devoted wife of 54 years, JoAnn Johanson Taylor, son Jason Taylor and daughter-in-law Becky, daughter Nicole Taylor and son-in-law David Schachter, and his three precious grandchildren:  Kate Taylor, Jack Taylor, and Oliver Taylor Schachter.  He is also survived by his dear brother Howard Taylor (Linda), loving sisters Melba Clewis (David) and Gena Quintanilla (Marco), numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.  Bruce was born on September 30, 1941.  His late parents, Juanita and Herman Taylor, raised him and his siblings in Houston, Texas.  He attended Reagan High School where he met the love of his life, JoAnn.  After graduation, Bruce attended the University of Houston, where he earned his business degree.  Bruce was fortunate to retire in 2009 after a 49-year career at M-I SWACO, a subsidiary of Schlumberger Oil.  While there he was a great mentor to many.  On August 3, 1963, Bruce married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Johanson.  Together, "Team Taylor" would go on to raise their own family.  Although Bruce's career sent them to multiple states throughout the country, Houston was always home.  Bruce was a life-long friend.  He shared his caring and selflessness in so many ways.  For those lucky enough, he would offer his expertise in household projects.  Day or night, "The Fixer" was always willing to lend his expertise and talents.  He never cut corners and always went the extra mile to ensure the job was done correctly:  "Measure twice, cut once!"  He was like the Energizer Bunny, unstoppable when he took on a new project.  Bruce had many hobbies, including running, fishing, rebuilding cars, traveling with JoAnn, and walking Laverne and Shirley, his beloved dogs.  In their retirement, Bruce and JoAnn shared many traveling adventures in their RV.  Team Taylor traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States.  Above all else, Bruce's priority was his family.  He was an adoring husband and compassionate partner to JoAnn.  To his children, Bruce was wise, caring and supportive.  To Kate, Jack, and Oliver, Bruce was the greatest and most awesome "Papa".  He loved playing hide and seek and building them special handmade toys in his garage workshop.  His family was his pride and joy.  Bruce will be forever remembered for his endless love for his family, his willingness to help others, and his generous and caring spirit.

on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
