With deep sorrow, we announce that Bruce Alan Johnson, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, died on December 28, 2025, in Tomball, Texas, shortly after a wonderful extended family Christmas Day celebration at his home. His son, Shawn, said, "He shared his last days with almost every loved one in his life in his home. That's beautiful."

The eldest of three, Bruce was born July 16, 1951, to Clifford and Inez Parker Johnson in Abilene, Texas. After moving to San Antonio, Long Beach, CA, and Dallas in his early childhood, Bruce's family settled in Houston, where Bruce graduated from Westchester Senior High School in 1969. An outstanding high school student academically, he was also an MVP baseball player, serving as the first baseman and catcher.

For his freshman year of college, Bruce played Southwest Conference Division I Baseball for Texas Tech University. He then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin in his sophomore year, where he pursued his passion for microbiology by conducting research on Salmonella under the guidance of Dr. L. Joe Berry, Chairman of the Microbiology Department. He completed his B.S. at UT as well as a Master's Degree in Microbiology.

Bruce's education and lifelong interest in plants and gardening combined well for a career in Bioremediation. Working for various companies, including Exxon and Chevron, he used microorganisms to degrade contaminants and clean up polluted soil and water. The son of a Mustang Caterpillar Vice President, Bruce grew up around earthmoving equipment and loved construction. His supervision of construction work primarily focused on commercial demolition projects. He was handy for home building and repair.

A man of many talents and interests, Bruce was an excellent photographer, a great cook, a decent golfer and target shooter, an avid Texas Longhorn fan, and a cat whisperer to the many stray cats who adopted him. For ten years, he enjoyed road trips on his Harley with his riding group. An amateur meteorologist, weather fascinated him and he loved watching a good electrical storm. His family cherished his quick wit, kindness, and laid-back demeanor. He believed in living life in the moment and appreciating its simple pleasures.

Bruce will be sorely missed by those who survive him: his wife of 31 years, Randie Johnson of Tomball, beloved brother Gary Johnson (Katie) of San Angelo, sister Dr. Linda Jackson (Jeff) of Sugar Land, son Shawn Johnson (Beth), and their daughter Romy Arrow Johnson of St. Helena, CA, son Jay Johnson of Conroe, stepdaughter Dana Hengst Sylvester and her son Chase, and stepdaughter Kelley Hengst. Nephews and nieces include Gary's children, Joe Johnson of Houston, Molly Johnson Turk (TJ) of San Angelo, and their son Parker, and Linda's children, Dr. Gregory Jackson (fiancé Parmida) of Austin, and Elizabeth Kelley (Ryan) of Austin.

A Visitation for Bruce will start at 9 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 10 a.m., on January 9, 2026, at Klein Funeral Home - Champions, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Klein, TX 77379.
