Lt. Bruce Hayward, born in Toledo, Ohio February 3rd, 1941. He grew up in Wayne Michigan. Bruce graduated from Eastern Michigan University with honors in 1967. He then went on to Offices Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida and was commissioned a Navy Ensign in June 1968. He Then went on and earned his Navy Flight Officer Wings in September1969. Bruce then went to Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego for training in the McDonnell F-4 known as the Phantom. This two-seater was considered the front-line fighter. The Phantom, a twenty-ton, twin engine bomber could fly at speeds of 1600 mph. After training and checkout, Bruce was assigned to the VF151 on the USS midway CVA-41. He was on the Midway for two combat tours in Viet Nam and completed over two hundred missions.

Lt. Bruce Hayward received the Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Presidential Unit Citation, 12th, Air Medal, National Defense Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He received an honorable discharge in January 1977.

He was hired by Frontier Airlines as a pilot and spent 9 years with them until the airlines went bankrupt and was then hired by Continental Airlines and flew with then until he retired in 2001.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Karen of twenty-four years.

Including his parents Bruce was preceded in death by his daughter Dawn Hayward and brother Tim Hayward.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, October 13th, 2024, from 1 PM to 3 PM at Klein Funeral Home, 1400 West Main Street, Tomball, Texas 77375.  Graveside Services with Navy Honors will be held Monday, October 14th, 2024, at 10:30 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston Texas 77038, with Dc. Will Hunter presiding.
