Obituary

After a life filled with love and caring for others, we are sad to announce the passing of Brenda Jean (Karney) Vaughan-York on March 10, 2026. Born in Hopkins, Texas on February 5, 1941, to Wilbur Willis Karney and Fannie Mae (Burkham) Karney. She was the eldest of 4 children and was raised on a farm for the first few years of her life before they moved to Dallas, Texas.

She graduated from WW Samuel High School in 1959, and shortly after graduation she married her first love, Harold Gene Vaughan. Brenda and Harold spent the first 16 years of their lives together in Dallas, before relocating to Spring, Texas in 1975.

Harold and Brenda were devoted and loving parents to two children: David Michael Vaughan, and Laurie Kay (Vaughan) Beavers. They taught Michael and Laurie many life lessons and were supportive of their various interests. They instilled high moral and ethical values in both of their children.

After 46 years of marriage, Harold passed away in December of 2005. In the years that followed, she found love again in Joe York Sr., whom she married on November 9, 2013. Together they shared 12 wonderful years.

Brenda loved her family deeply. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. To know Brenda was to know true unconditional love. She was very generous, both with her time and resources, and loved helping others. Some of her last words were, "I don't want to leave my family."

Brenda loved her two grandchildren, Erin Beavers and Lisa Beavers and affectionately referred to them as her two angels. She had many fond memories of them and often liked to reminisce and tell stories of things they said and did when they were young. She also enjoyed spending time with them as adults, most recently attending a Broadway Musical. Time spent with her family just sitting around the house and talking was equally as valuable to her.

She was an avid reader and especially loved historical fiction. She recently read (then re-read) the 900 page book entitled Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, the 9th book in the Outlander Series. She also was a devoted Kohl's shopper and was never without her 30% off coupon or Kohl's Cash. Brenda made the most of every visit, happily wandering around and browsing everything the store had to offer, whether she needed it or not.

Brenda was preceded in death by her first husband Harold Vaughan, her brother Richard Karney, and her brother in law, Gary Kines.

Brenda is survived by her husband Joe York Sr., her son David Michael Vaughan, her daughter Laurie Kay Beavers (Brian), grandchildren Erin Beavers (partner Chris Paul) and Lisa Beavers (fiancé, August Nguyen), and sisters Sandra Gammill (Mack) and Rhonda Kines.  Also surviving are five "bonus" children and grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and their families.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project ( woundedwarriorproject.org ) or The American Heart Association ( heart.org ).
