Brenda Cagle, 63, of Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 24, surrounded by family and loved ones after a courageous battle with uterine cancer.

Brenda was raised in California, Missouri. She graduated from California R–1 High School in 1978. She then attended Lincoln University on a volleyball scholarship, graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Health.

Before starting her collegiate career, Brenda worked at the Jefferson City YMCA where she met the love of her life, Clayton Cagle. After a four-year courtship, and upon completion of her academic degree, Brenda and Clayton married in 1983. They resided in Lawrence, Kansas, where Clayton was a blossoming assistant swim coach at the University of Kansas. Brenda accepted her first teaching position with the Lawrence Independent School District – the beginning of a long, illustrious teaching career.

In 1986, Brenda and Clayton relocated to Cypress, TX, as they continued to build their careers and set roots down for their growing family. Clayton began his head swim coaching career and Brenda further established herself as a beloved teacher and coach.

Brenda was an exceptional Physical Education teacher and coach in the Cy-Fair Independent School District for 34 years before retiring in 2022. She was an inspirational mentor, motivating role model, and genuine friend to her colleagues. Brenda had the unique ability to foster relationships with her students and get the most out of their abilities. She began teaching in Cy-Fair I.S.D. at Horne, and Hairgrove elementary schools. She then moved to Watkins Middle School and began her coaching career, followed by 22 years at Bleyl Middle School. Brenda's athletes thrived under her coaching and learned much more than how to play volleyball or run track. They were taught to be respectful honest students, athletes, and young adults. Many of these athletes came back to share their successes long after middle school.

Family was a touchstone in Brenda's life. She was a devoted wife and mother who embraced every opportunity to be with family, and who adored her role as Nona to her two grandchildren. Brenda loved with her whole heart, nurturing her loved ones with unconditional affection. A wise counselor, those closest to her knew they could come to her with any issue and find honest guidance. Brenda led with a depth of character that inspired thoughtful reflection. Even when giving tough love, her family and friends knew her words were genuine and spoken with care. Brenda was a beloved source of strength for her family, a guiding force who inspired others to seek their fullest potential. Her authentic love survives in the wealth of memories her family holds dear – reflections that will bolster them with her loss.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Clayton, and sons Kurtis and Brad, along with Brad's wife Jill and grandchildren, Colton and Reese. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Steve Bowlin and his wife Cindy; niece Michelle Cronk and her husband Doug; and nephew Dr. Greg Bowlin. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Janet Bowlin.
