Bonnie Ruth (Nettles) Kay, 91, of Spring & Conroe, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 20, 1934, in Madisonville, Texas, to Joe Bob & Minnie Lillis (Shoemaker) Nettles. Bonnie, known affectionately as Mamaw by her family and many in the community, lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

Bonnie graduated from Madisonville High School in 1953. She worked for the Conroe Tax Office for several years before beginning a long and faithful career as a public servant with the US Postal Service at the Conroe, Texas branch. Throughout her tenure at the US Post Office, she received numerous accolades and awards honoring her stellar service to the community. Following her retirement from the post office, Bonnie served many more years in devotion and service at Mims Baptist Church.

On April 19, 1952 Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, LaDon Pope Kay of Conroe, Texas. They were married for over 44 years before he went home to be with the Lord. They had 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, & 4 great-great grandchildren.

Bonnie was a member of Mims Baptist Church for approximately 63 years. Throughout her faithful service to the Lord through her church, she served in various ministries, including: Children's Minister, Kitchen Coordinator, Choir, Sunday School teacher to all ages, Nursery Worker, VBS Director, Women's Missionary Union (WMU), and various other ministries and services.

She loved playing volleyball & believed it to be one of the greatest sports in American history. She was also a die-hard Astros fan and could be regularly found rooting for her home team on game days.

She loved vacations, especially to the beach.

She was known to both her family and friends for being an incredible cook. According to her grandchildren, she perfected chicken fingers, chicken fried steak, Italian cream cake, roast and the rolls for every family gathering.

People will remember Bonnie the most for being a helper. If she saw a need, she was the one being proactive to do something, not just offering "thought and prayers." She was a woman of action, serving others through her gift of intentionality, thoughtfulness, hospitality and acts of service.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Michael Dennis Kay Sr and his wife, Anna, with whom she lived for several years. She is also survived by her grandchildren & their families: Elizabeth Ann Mitchell (husband Kris, sons Kaleb & Barrett); Michael Dennis Kay, Jr (wife Alice, children
Annabelle, Wyatt, Haven, Hazel, Elijah); Anna Lisa Williams (husband Brandon, children Taylor, Tanna, Tenley); Donna LeyAnne Maxwell (husband Jeff, children Taylor, Ashtin); Kimberly Dianne Brown (husband Andy, children Tripp, Kaylee); Jessica Arredondo (children Bonita, Knoah, Ly'Mar & Elizyah); Maria Rebecca Arredondo (daughter Katie & husband Teige); Pablo Federico Arredondo II (Eric) (children Stephen, Jaycob, Erin & Eriel); Joseph Michael Kay (wife Allison, children Sadie, William, Cooper); Amy Bryan Zurbola (husband Darin).

In addition to being the matriarch of the Kays, Bonnie welcomed Ms Cindy Drake into the family as if she were her own, and Cindy cared for Mamaw so well throughout many years. She also leaves behind an incredible family tree including several great-great grandchildren (Gabriel, Jackson, Gavin, & Paisley).

Bonnie is predeceased by her husband, LaDon, and 4 of their children: Donna Lynn Kay, LaDon Pope Kay, Jr (Donnie), Petra Diane Schweigert & Regina LaNette Kay. She is also predeceased by a great-grandson, Parker, and her full sisters, Elnora & Eula, as well as her other siblings, Gus, Joseph, Milton, Edna & William.

The family invites you to celebrate Bonnie's life with them on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Mims Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas. Visitation begins at 1:00pm, with A Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm. Immediately following will be a Burial at the Gravesite, and then a Reception at approximately 4pm in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Gideons in honor of Bonnie Ruth Kay.

Bonnie's faith is evidenced through her very well-worn Bible, in which the family located one of her favorite scriptures: Joshua 24:15 – "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in a long life well lived and a legacy that will continue through generations. And we are so grateful for our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, who gives the assurance of eternity with Him and the knowledge we will see Bonnie / Mamaw again.
