In memory of Bobby Wayne Barton, Sr
Bobby (Bob) Wayne Barton, Sr. was born in the hospital of Palestine, Texas on July 26, 1937 to Robert E. & Lora Lee Barton, and died December 3, 2022 in Tomball, Texas. Bobby was reared in Cayuga, Texas where his parents owned a grocery & feed store. The store was prosperous
until the untimely death of his father when Bobby was a infant.
Lora Lee Cherry Barton moved with her children to Houston, Texas after the passing of her husband and started a new life. Bobby later attended Charles H. Milby High School where he was noticed and recruited by a basketball scout for Kilgore College. Bobby and his brother, Hunter, later helped their team become the 1956 National Champions and were part of one of the most prestigious Jr College basketball teams in the nation. Both were on the team that were elected into the Hall of Fame at Kilgore College.
While attending Kilgore College, what else would a star basketball player do besides meet a Kilgore Rangerette, (Armenda McGibbony) and later marry her. Their honeymoon was short due to Bobby entering the United States Air Force. You might say basketball saved Bobby's life. While stationed on the isle of Crete, Bobby was playing basketball and sprained his ankle, and that sprained ankle kept him off a reconnaissance plane / mission that never returned.
The Lord had other plans for Bobby. Three of those plans were his children, Bobby Jr, Vicki and Bill.
Bobby W. Barton was a math wizard and ended up as an electrical engineer working with companies such as TRW and Texas Instruments. Later in life he wanted to slow things down and purchased a ceiling fan store in the Montrose area of Houston called "Houston Fan Shop". Houston Fan Shop was not only known for repairs and installs, it also sold one of a kind antique ceiling fans. If you ever ate at Momma's, Strawberry Patch, Circus Circus, you probably saw one of his fans!
If I were to tell you that Bobby was a good dancer, that would be a understatement. As a young man, no one could do the bop better as his friends and wife would testify. In retirement years, Bobby was drawn to country and western dancing where he frequented the Longhorn in  Houston, Tx.
Bobby was quite a horseman, along with his brother Fowler. As youngsters they rode horses and as older men they both got into Team Penning. They won the 1993 State Fair of Texas Team Penning in Fort Worth. Bobby later got involved in cutting horses.
In the late 1970's, Bobby was saved as a born again Christian. Bobby studied the Bible and became very strong in his Christian faith. Please, know that Bobby is now rejoicing with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I'm writing this for my dad and I am going to miss him terribly but I know my dad is whole again with our Father in heaven.

Memorial service for Bobby W. Barton Sr. will be held on December 30, 2022 at 1PM in Cayuga, TX. Due to weather, the memorial will start at 1PM at the Bethel Cayuga VFD (green bldg), 20343 N. US Hwy 287, Athens, TX (it is actually Cayuga, Tx). There will be refreshments, small lunch, sharing of stories about Bobby and celebration of life. 3PM The memorial will continue to Judson Cemetery for a burial of ashes.
