Billy James Overton, beloved to all who knew him, passed away on January 26, 2019. Billy was born in Perkinston, Mississippi on May 14, 1930, and lived in the log farmhouse that his father built until he joined the United States Army in 1952. Billy served his country in the Korean Conflict. While on military leave, he attended a USO dance in Worcester, Massachusetts where he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Marie Trottier. Billy and Shirley were married in 1954. Billy then attended Perkinston Junior College and Tulane University where he obtained a degree in business administration. Billy and Shirley resided in New Orleans, LA where Billy worked for Shell Oil Company. In 1974, Billy and Shirley moved their family of six to Houston, TX. During his 32 years with Shell Oil, Billy helped to work on the Alaskan Pipeline. He loved his time and the people he worked with at Shell until his retirement. Billy was a passionate golfer and developed life-long friendships through the sport. He also enjoyed spending time with his neighborhood friends playing tennis, socializing in their supper club, and playing bridge. Time was always devoted to his family who knew they were loved unconditionally. Billy loved spending time with his grandchildren and made sure to spend quality time with each one. Everyone who knew Billy was blessed by his kindness, generosity, humor, and his truly humble nature. He will be missed beyond measure.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Claude Overton and siblings, Harold (Kathy), Mary Helen, Neal, Eva (Thomas), Betty (Graeme), and Joe (Bettye). He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Overton. He is also survived by his children David (Leslie) Overton, Karen Green, Kim (Robert) Brown, and Kelly (Sebastien) Gerletti and grandchildren Jennifer, Brittany, Matthew (Shannon), Travis, Chelsea, Anna Claire, Cole, and MacKensi, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Layla, along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Thursday, February 7 at 10:30 am in the Mary Chapel, with a reception to follow at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
