God didn't allow Bill to continue as a single parent and, after meeting co-worker Gwendolyn Nesbit, they married in 1967. She loved the girls as her own. Life was good in Shreveport and they enjoyed their church family at Westside Baptist Church until the girls were in high school. However, in 1975, their employer moved the headquarters office to Houston. As Bill explained to the girls, "Our paychecks are moving to Houston and we're going to be there to get them." It didn't take long for them to become active with their new church family, Champion Forest Baptist Church, where they served the Lord with gladness and developed deep friendships. Six grandchildren were treated with love and fun at granddaddy and grandmother's house and various day trips and longer trips with them. The 4th of July Greenwood Forest neighborhood parades were an annual highlight as the kids decorated their bikes and rode in the parade. Two great-grandchildren later joined in the fun. Bill retired from Pennzoil in 1986. Life for Bill changed drastically when Gwen went to heaven in 2007, emotionally as he missed his beloved spouse and companion of 40+ years and physically without his primary caretaker as post-polio syndrome gradually deteriorated his legs. He lived at Brookdale Assisted Living Community for the last seven years of his life, where he received loving, competent care at a great place for family and friends to visit.
Bill was also preceded in death by granddaughter Amanda Garcia. Survivors are daughters Tamara West and husband James and Kimberlie Adair and husband Bob, grandchildren Melissa Garcia, Jessica Ziebell and husband Peyton, Mitchell Adair and wife Leah, Megan Adair, and Mallory Adair and great grandchildren Dylan Clemons, Jenna Clemons, and Grant Adair.Wednesday
