Billie Ruth Martin

March 9, 1932

August 12, 2023

Billie Ruth Martin, age ninety-one, of Houston, Texas entered eternal rest joining her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 12, 2023. She was born on March 9, 1932 to William and Ruth McLeroy, of Hearne, Texas. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of forty-nine years, Milton "Pete" Martin. Billie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Billie was devoted to her family and many friends. Growing up in Houston, she loved roller skating and dancing. She always looked forward to returning to Hearne to visit her grandparents, Pastor Charles and Emma Bullock. As a wife and mother, she spent many happy times camping and water skiing with her beloved brother, Brian, his family, and their mutual friends. Her greatest joy in life was being the grandmother of two boys, Justin and Michael. After her home in Baton Rouge flooded, Billie returned to Texas to be near her son, Tommy and his wife, Norma. She soon settled into independent living in a cozy little apartment. Visits from Tommy and Norma were the highlight of her week. Billie never told them good-bye. Instead, her parting words were always, "Take care of one another." She loved playing BINGO and visiting with her wonderful new friends. They remained devoted to her even as her health declined and she moved into assisted living. Her sister-in-law, Erma, was a devoted friend who visited often. Erma's children, Brian, Vickie, and Dorsey, brought joy to her heart every time they came to see her. All who knew Billie loved her kind heart, cheerful outlook, and witty humor. Her gratitude to God was an inspiration to all. For as long as she lived, Billie greeted everyone with kind words and a big smile.

Billie is survived by her son & wife, Tommy & Norma Scarborough of Jersey Village, Texas, their sons Justin of Bryan, Texas and Michael and wife Katie of Fort Collins, Colorado, nephews Brian McLeroy & wife Kathy, Dorsey McLeroy and wife Susan and their children Mandy and Tyler, niece Vickie Peacock and son Christopher & wife Katy.

We wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff at St. Luke's Vintage Hospital and to the loving staff and residents of Village on the Park Steeplechase. We will forever cherish the memories of their love, support, and devotion to our wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Remember, as a wise lady once said, "Be kind to one another."
