Guillermo "Bill" Izquierdo

May 3, 1934 - November 23, 2024

Guillermo " Wild Bill" Izquierdo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born on May 3, 1934 in Jalapa Veracruz to Carlos and Francisca Izquierdo. Bill was one of 9  children.

Bill grew up  in Aguascalientes, Mexico, a beautiful and historic city in central Mexico with lovely architecture. The area includes many hot springs, the reason for the name, Aguascalientes, meaning "hot water". It is also home to the largest festival in Mexico, the "Feria de San Marcos".

Bill's sense of adventure was evident at an early age. When he  was 14 years old,  he was supposed to go to midnight Mass. Instead, he left and wandered Mexico for several years, working odd jobs in various states. He did eventually return to visit, but he was on his own from that day forward.

Eventually, he crossed the border to see what adventures he may encounter in the United States. Legend has it, he crossed the border as a stowaway on the bottom of a railroad car. At age 19, he found his way to Clovis, New Mexico and obtained work on the railroad. During this time, he lived in an abandoned box car, which would have been difficult during New Mexico's snowy winters. As luck would have it, an 11 year old boy named Cuco Huerta wandered into his box car one day. He was excited to find that this stranger in the box car was from Aguascalientes, which was the same place Cuco's family was from. This little boy brought Bill home to meet the family. Within a year, Bill was married to Cuco's older cousin, Mary Huerta. They remained together until Bill's death. He passed away 3 days short of their 69th anniversary.

Over the years, Bill and Mary lived in many places, including: Clovis NM, Hobbs NM, Albuquerque NM, Aguascalientes MX, College Station TX, Austin TX, and Houston TX. Bill followed the work (and his spirt of adventure) and relocated the family many times over the years. Bill was a skilled painter, handyman, and woodworker who wasn't afraid to tackle any job.

Bill is preceded in death by: his daughters - Judy and Bernadette Izquierdo, his son - Billy Izquierdo, grandson - Javiercito Izquierdo, parents - Carlos and Francisca Izquierdo, brothers - Carlos, Javier, and Rodolfo Izquierdo, and in-laws - Apolinar and Amanda Huerta.

He is survived by his wife - Mary Izquierdo, sons - Javier, Jerry, Carlos, and Fernando Izquierdo, daughters - Monica Martinez and Lucy Elizondo, daughters in law - Debbie, Sandra, Lois, Dia, and Shari Izquierdo, sons in law - Rene Martinez and Armando Elizondo, 9 granddaughters, 13 grandsons, 12 great granddaughters, and 11 great grandsons.

Bill's spirt of adventure, strong work ethic, and dedication to family will remain with us always.
