Obituary

Bill Gene Brown, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and World War II veteran, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 102. Born October 26, 1922, in Burkburnett, Texas, Bill lived a life marked by courage, devotion, and love for his family and country.

He spent his early years living in Tampico, Mexico during the oil boom, with his family. They moved to Cushing, Oklahoma, where Bill graduated from Cushing High School serving as class president. After high school, he attended Oklahoma University.

Bill served honorably as an Army medic during World War II, spending two years in combat in the jungles of the Pacific. His bravery and selflessness in tending to wounded soldiers under harrowing conditions left a lasting legacy of service. After the war, he returned home to build a life centered around family and community, and later earned a degree in chemistry from Compton College in California. Upon graduation, he began working for Shell Research and Development, retiring in 1983.

In 1951, he and his first wife, Joyce Ann Albert, welcomed a daughter. Though their marriage ended in divorce, Bill's commitment to family endured. On April 30, 1960, he married the love of his life, Ruth Agnes Childs, and together they reared a loving family of three children. Bill's pride and joy extended to his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Bill's life was defined by resilience, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved. He was a pillar of strength, a source of laughter, and a keeper of memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Childs; his parents Carl and Mary Ellen Brown; siblings Geraldine Brown, and Jack Brown; and two infant great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Deborah (Frank) Locatell; Cheryl (Derek) Bushman; Brian (Leann) Brown; Meri Kae (Darrell) Parker; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of loved ones who will forever honor his memory.

Interment with military honors will be held at the Houston National Veteran's Cemetery.

Rest in peace, Bill Gene Brown—a true hero and a beloved patriarch.
