Beverly J King, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully left her earthly body on June 1st, 2024, surrounded by her three loving children, Cham Jones King II, Cynthia King Maness, and Juli King. Beverly June Orr was born May 18, 1933 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Thelma Elnora Orr and Clifford Peers Orr as well as to big sister Paula Pat Orr. Beverly had fond memories of growing up in the small Oklahoma town and in her later years often yearned for that simpler time. Beverly June adored her parents and loved living close to her Aunts, Uncles and cousins who often lived next door or just down the street. She told stories of sleeping out on their screened in porch in the summer, running into the storm cellar during Tornados, of walking to town with a quarter in her pocket to catch a double feature at the Palace theater and of going to watch the Duncan Demons play basketball with her Father. Beverly loved being a Duncan Demon and planned their many class reunions over the years.

Beverly was an excellent student, active in all things, especially musical, and was editor of her High School yearbook. She loved going to school dances, singing in the Operetta and playing the ukulele and singing with her parents. After high school, Beverly went to OU where she was an active Gamma Phi Beta and graduated with a Bachelors in Education. After graduating from college, Beverly moved back to Duncan and taught elementary school and music. She also played the piano and organ at the Duncan Baptist church each Sunday. While teaching, Beverly connected with the mother of one of her childhood classmates. Mrs. Ila King, who was also a teacher, told Beverly that her son, Cham Jones King, would soon be home from the war in Korea. Ila thought the two would be a good match and upon Cham's arrival back in Duncan, his mother encouraged him to ask Beverly out on a date. The rest is history. Cham and Beverly were married on September 7, 1957 and remained married for 66 years, good job, Granny King!

Since Cham was still finishing college when they wed, Beverly gave up teaching and moved to Stillwater to start her newlywed life. She worked part-time for a seamstress and honed her sewing skills which she would use and enjoy her entire life. They soon welcomed their first child, Cham Jones King II, on March 9, 1958. After college, Cham worked in the Oil Patch as a Geologist and that job moved the family around the country a bit, first to to Albion, Michigan where they welcomed daughter Cynthia Leigh King on March, 12, 1960 and later to Houston where they completed their family with the addition of daughter, Juli Lynne King on March 22, 1966.

Beverly loved being a mother more than anything in the world and was very active in all three of her children's lives, first in Houston, for a brief time in Richardson, and then finally when the family settled into their forever home in Spring, Texas in 1973. Beverly was always the troop leader, the classroom Mom, the planner of the school carnivals, taught Music and Art appreciation at the elementary school, insanely decorated the house for every holiday, made costumes for all of Cynthia and Juli's plays and musicals and both of their wedding dresses, cheered Cham on at every sporting event, took Cynthia to cheerleading practice and dance recitals, played the piano for all of the neighbors Choir and Band competitions, let Cham build a skateboard ramp in the backyard and go off surfing for weeks at a time and always cheered Juli on at every swim meet, even though it was clear that she was not going to be a future Olympian! And she did this all while Cham was away on business. She was truly Super Mom magic!

Beverly and Cham were thrilled when their family once again began to grow. First when Cham II married Stephanie Mattox, Cynthia married Bruce Maness, and finally when Juli married Rick Royea. But the thing that Beverly loved even more than being a Mom, was being a grandma. Beverly, Mom, now Meme doted on and adored her three grandchildren, Cham Jones King III, Clifford Eliot Maness and Shannon Anne King. Meme continued her magical reign making all holidays and birthdays special and always with a twinkle in her eye. Cham and Beverly, now Meme and Papaw, never missed one of Shannon's dance recitals or any of the boys athletic events, were at all of the graduations, high school and college, and proudly supported their grand-kids. Meme and Papaw celebrated the marriage of Cham III to Allie Mullins and of Shannon to Chandler Kyser and were thrilled to meet the next generation, welcoming Cham Jones King IV, Chloe Jones Kyser, Mattox David King and Meme was so excited to greet the newborn twins, Kevin Campbell and Kennedy Anne Kyser. Meme and Papaw were so proud of them all.

A big party was planned for Meme's 91st birthday and she was able to see her entire family and got to hold the sweet twins, and declared that it was "just like looking at heaven." Meme would pass away two weeks later. We think Meme hung on until her birthday to see her beloved family all together one more time before she went to be with Papaw.

Beverly King was a wonder, a true Renaissance woman, one of the most unique people you would ever be lucky enough to meet, and someone you will never forget. She made you feel special, she poured her love and energy into every crazy craft, crocheted afghan, and knitted scarf that she made for you. She opened her home to any child in the neighborhood who needed a safe haven or a meal, she made young people feel seen and gave them the courage to be themselves, she made fast-friends with strangers in line at the grocery store or on a cruise and would receive Christmas cards from these new friends every year for the rest of her life. She was curious, a traveler, a Rockets super fan, a loving wife, an adoring mother and Meme, a mentor, a caring friend and neighbor and there just aren't enough words to describe the enormous hole left in the universe by her absence.

The family, still grieving the recent loss of their beloved Patriarch, now grieve for the loss of their treasured Matriarch and thank you so much for your love and kindness during this difficult time. We are comforted to know that Meme and Papaw are together and are watching over us all. A celebration of Beverly's life will be held on October 12th, 2024 from 11-3  at Wunsche Brothers Saloon and Cafe in Old Town Spring.
