BEULAH "BOOTS" BENSON

November 4, 1920 - August 4, 2026

"Boots" Benson (née Butler), whose life of faith, family, and service spanned more than a century, passed away peacefully at the age of 105 on August 4, 2026, in Spring, Texas.

Born on November 4, 1920, on a farm near Cleveland, Oklahoma, Boots was the youngest of nine children in the Butler family. She remained devoted throughout her life to her parents, siblings, and the large extended family of nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy. At the age of twelve, she professed her faith, joined her church, and was baptized in a nearby creek, beginning a lifelong walk of faith that remained central to her life.

A brief first marriage brought the birth of her daughter, Barbara, in 1939. As a young single mother, Boots moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she worked for Mid-Continent Oil Company.

There she typed reports and communicated daily with oil scouts across several states to compile drilling information. While working there, she met geologist Morris H. "Benny" Benson. They married in 1947 and shared a loving partnership for sixty-three years. Their daughter, Judy, was born in 1948.

In 1954, the family moved to Midland, Texas, where their son, Raymond, was born in 1955.

Barbara had married and remained in Tulsa. The family settled in Odessa, Texas, in 1960, where Boots and Benny became active members of their church, singing together in the choir for many years. They also enjoyed playing bridge and frequently welcomed friends into their home for bridge parties. Annual trips back to Oklahoma to reunite with the Butler family became a treasured family tradition.

In 1998, after their children were grown and had families of their own, Boots and Benny moved to Spring, Texas, to be closer to Judy. Boots found joy in serving her church and caring for her family. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, reading, and participating in church book clubs.

Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her family. She especially treasured her four grandchildren, Cheryl, Weston, Kristy, and Max, and delighted in her five great-grandchildren, Sean, Theo, Tilly, Milly, and Rufus.

Boots will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gracious spirit, generous hospitality, quiet strength, and abiding love for her family. Her life, which spanned more than a century, was a testament to resilience, devotion, and kindness.

She is survived by her children, Judy (Dennis) Boyter, and Raymond (Randi) Benson; her grandchildren, Cheryl Blackburn, Weston (Christina) Hurt, Kristy Hurt, and Max (Jayme) Benson; her great-grandchildren, Sean, Theo, Tilly, Rufus, and Milly; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny; her parents; her eight siblings; and daughter Barbara.
