Betty H. Harris

Betty H. Harris, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 27, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and attended LSU where she met the love of her life, her beloved husband of 55 years, Walter H. Harris, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2005. Betty was a stay-at-home mom until relocating to Houston in 1973 where she began her career as a staffing coordinator at Foley's.

Betty loved to cook and bake and prepared many of her signature dishes for family gatherings and shared them with friends. She lived for the days when her children and grandchildren visited and when family could all gather for occasions and celebrations. She was a huge LSU Tiger fan – Geaux Tigers, sharing that love with Walter. She loved trips to beach resorts, traveling to small towns throughout Texas and Louisiana shopping the many boutiques, visiting the Louisiana plantation homes, going down to the coast for fresh seafood, eating at her favorite seafood restaurants and enjoying a good margarita with family and friends.

Betty played bridge from an early age and continued playing until her 90's, creating new friendships within her women's bridge group. She also loved playing her piano and solving crossword puzzles. She was sharp as a tack and had quite a memory. It was amazing how much recall she had with numbers, dates and names. She was feisty and always determined to fight any obstacle that came her way. Her strength never ceased to amaze us. She was blessed to have many special friends in her life who she cherished and always spoke of to family members. The family will always be grateful knowing she had these special people in her life to also love and support her as we did. We will all remember that special little eye wink she would give us from time to time.

Betty was predeceased by her mother Berniece Norton Louis. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Cynthia Overstrom (John), Steven Harris (Brenda), Dianne Younger (Craig), Scott Harris, 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many beloved friends. The family welcomes you to gather with us to celebrate her love of family and friends and her faith in eternal peace.

Serving as pallbearers are Chase Younger, Benjamin Harris, Stephen Walker, Kurt Fahrenthold, Ken Knight and Michael Sanchez. The Interment will follow at Klein Memorial Park, 9714 FM 2920, Tomball, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Texas Children's Hospital
