Betty Sue Dodson Finke, 91 years of age, passed away August 11, 2024. She consistently fought her best against many health ailments, but has finally been called to rest. She has numerous family and friends that cherish her deeply and will miss her.

Betty was born November 12, 1932, in Blue Ridge, Texas, but spent the majority of her life in the Galena Park, Houston, and Cypress areas. After graduating from Galena Park High School, she took on various bookkeeping or accounting positions before retiring as a Real Estate Loan officer for Texas Commerce Bank (now part of Chase Banking). She enjoyed the challenges of teaching herself the necessary skills for these positions as well as the many friends that she met in her departments.

While Betty enjoyed her career, she was defined more by her hobbies and relationships with friends and family.

Betty had numerous hobbies: most notably, she greatly enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, restoring antiques, traveling, and puzzle solving (even with failing eyesight, you would not beat her at this activity). There were two common threads between these activities that drew her to them. First, it allowed her to stay engaged with the world and as active mentally and physically as she was capable of at the time. Second, they were opportunities for her to create items that brought joy or otherwise benefitted those she cared about. She always got the most satisfaction from knowing that she had helped someone, be they friend, family, or simply someone in need.

During her long life, Betty touched many people for the better. She had a good relationship with her parents, Ivyl Bryant Dodson and Ruby Jewel Atteberry Dodson. She had a similarly close relationship with her three siblings. Two siblings have preceded her in death, Iris Joe Dodson, Sr. (his wife Arlene) and Patricia Dodson Buckelew (her husband Buck); she is survived by her brother, Marion Dodson (his wife Trisha). She was married to her husband, Wilbur Lee Finke Sr., for nearly 65 years before his passing in 2019.

She is survived by her son, Wilbur Lee Finke Jr. (his wife Beverly), her grandchildren, Meagan, Kelsey (her husband Carlos), and Brian Finke (his fiancé Anna), and her great-grandchild, Carlos Lee Garcia Finke. She also has many nieces, nephews, in-laws, caregivers, neighbors, and friends that loved, and were loved by, her.

Many of the well wishes that have been received echo how her family feels about her: Betty was an individual that managed to combine both great gentleness and great strength. While she will be genuinely and intensely missed by those that survive her, there is solace in the knowledge that her pain is over and that she is once again with the family and friends that have preceded her in death.

Friends are invited to visit with the family between 5:30 and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16, at Klein Funeral Home – CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11522 Telge Road, Cypress, TX 77429. A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 19, at Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, 2373 FM 2988, Navasota, TX 77868.

There will be a gathering in the church fellowship hall following the service. Any expressions of sympathy or condolence are appreciated. We encourage you to donate to a charity of your choice in her name.
