Services For Betty Louise Eldridge, 87, will be held at 10 a.m. September 21, 2021, at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Spring, Texas. Burial following at 1 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston. She died September 11, 2021, and will be buried with her husband, Charles Albert Eldridge, who died in 2018.
A native of Newport, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Ruben D. Gaskin and Mary Flanagan Gaskin both of Russell County, Kentucky. She was a 1953 graduate of Simon Kenton High School, Independence, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1957 where she received numerous awards for academic achievement as well as "Most Outstanding Freshman Woman" in 1954. Betty was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority where she met her future husband, Charles. Betty and Charles married in 1958.
After receiving her bachelor's degree, Betty went to work as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines (TWA) where she became a crew member on the Douglas DC-3 and the Lockheed Constellation aircraft. She resigned her airline position to devote her talents to being a full-time housewife and mother. Charlie's career as a petroleum geologist saw him working for Standard Oil of California, Chevron, Mitchell Energy and Brock Petroleum. Charles' career landed the couple in Houston where they decided to remain to see their children through their education.
After her children had finished their education, Betty returned to the work force, this time in office administration in insurance as well as at Klein and Cy-Fair Independent School Districts. Betty was a passionate Tennis player and along with her husband, regularly played matches in the Klein and Champions area of Spring.
Betty is survived by Son, Charles Allen (Chuck) Eldridge and wife Carrie of Houston; Daughter Caryn Lynn (Eldridge) Hall and husband Willard of Beaumont, Texas; as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
