BETTY LOE DODD, 87, of Spring, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022. She was born March 15, 1935 in Harlingen, Texas to Harold and Sena Mae Loe. She grew up in Texarkana, Texas and married David Hiram Dodd in June of 1957. Following several transfers, they moved in 1969 to their lifelong home in Spring. They attended Tomball United Methodist Church and then were among the founding members of Klein United Methodist Church in 1977. Mrs. Dodd began teaching in the Klein Independent School District in 1969, and taught 4 th Grade at Haude Elementary School when it opened in 1970. She later moved into an administration role serving as Asst. Principal and Principal for a number of elementary schools within the Klein District. She opened Roth Elementary School in 1985 and remained there until she retired in 2002. In 2009, Mrs. Dodd was recognized by Klein ISD with the Donald R. Collins Distinguished Educator Award for her service and influence as a teacher and principal and in 2013, she was recognized as one of the 75 "Diamonds" of Klein ISD for having made a significant impact to the Klein Independent School District. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Women Educators and P.E.O., a Philanthropic Educational Organization.
Mrs. Dodd received a Bachelor's degree in Education from North Texas State University in January 1957 and a Master's Degree in Education in 1974 from Sam Houston State University.
Mrs. Dodd was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 46 years, David H. Dodd. She is survived by her son David Harold Dodd and wife Karen Lynne Dodd of The Woodlands, Texas, and two grandsons, David Keith Dodd and Justin Michael Dodd; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Thornton of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and niece and nephew, Carrie Lange and spouse, Sid; Lee Thornton and spouse, Jennifer; great nephews and niece, Bennett & Emily Lange, Tanner and Walker Thornton; nieces and nephews, Sharon Greene, Kristy Dodd, Danise Petticrew, Clay Dodd and Doug Greene. She was blessed to have many kind and devoted friends throughout her life.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Auberge in the Woodlands, Devotion Hospice, and her care givers with Grace Homestead; Ada, Chaquita, Crystal, and Thembie, for their loving care in her final weeks.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Klein United Methodist Church, 5920 F.M. 2920, Spring, Texas 77388. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends for a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to The Betty Loe Dodd Memorial Scholarship Fund, Sam Houston State University, Bobby K. Marks Administration Building, Office 132, SHSU Box 2537, Huntsville, TX 77341-2537. The scholarship benefits public school teachers pursing post graduate degrees.
