Bertha Louise Butler, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16th, 2026.
A fifth generation Houstonian, Bertha was born on January 25, 1945, to Sidney J. and Bertha E. McAughan. Bertha was the second child of three siblings.
She met her husband, Curtis L. Butler, at the University of Houston at the Newman Club Social in 1966. They were married on November 30, 1968, and were married for 37 years. They had a son and three daughters.
Bertha earned her Bachelors and Master's Degrees of Science in Education from the University of Houston. She then went on to earn her Doctorate in education from the University of Phoenix. Dr. Butler spent most of her career as a special education teacher for Klein ISD and made it her lifelong passion. She retired from full-time teaching in May 2002, after 30 years. Klein ISD honored her service by declaring January 25, 2005 as Bertha Butler Day. She continued to substitute teach in Klein ISD for the next 15 years.
Bertha was very involved in supporting all her children in youth sports. She volunteered to coach many of her children's youth teams. She herself played soccer for many years. She enjoyed travelling with her grandchildren, playing games and cards, reading and watching crime drama tv. Bertha was quick witted, had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney J. and Bertha E. McAughan, husband, Curtis L. Butler, sister, Gwen Gilliam (Mike), and brother, Dr. Tim McAughan. Bertha is survived by her son, Charlie Butler (Margie), daughters, Elizabeth Rozinsky (Dmitry), Kathleen Shute and Shannon Muehleman, grandchildren, Raegan Butler, Landon Butler, Dante Rozinksy, Andy Butler, Gabriel Cunningham, Nick Cunningham (Hannah), Gregory Shute III, Natas Shute (Ana), Alyssa Muehleman, Kyla Muehleman, great grandchildren, Fletcher and Eliza, many nieces and nephews.
