Bernita Maureen (Obenhaus) Measles, age 86, went to be with her Lord and husband on May 22, 2023. She leaves behind family friends and many caregivers that loved her so dearly.
Bernita was born to Adolf Henry Obenhaus and Agnes Frances Obenhaus on March 9, 1937 in Kress, TX. She attended Kress school all 12 years. This is where she met the love of her life Bobby Gene Measles. On December 15, 1956 they were married in Plainview, TX. They moved to Earth, TX where they farmed and had two children, Bobby Bryan and Brenda Gayle. They left farming and moved to Plainview where she spent time raising and chasing her children. In 1963 she and Bobby loaded up all they had and moved to Arkansas where he learned to fly and sold airplanes. In 1966 they packed and moved to Atlanta Georgia where Bobby started flying for Delta Airlines. They lived here for 3 months and were transferred to the Dallas, TX area. In 1968 they were transferred to Sharpston in Houston TX. In 1970, when they built Intercontinental Airport, they moved to Spring, TX where they lived until 1985.
While living in Spring, TX she helped with Explorer Scouts (teenage girls and boys), sang in the church choir and kept up with all of Bryan's football games and Brenda's band and then drill team events. She loved going to each one of these events.
In 1985 they decided Spring, TX was becoming way too busy and they wanted a slower paced life so they found 90 acres in Mineola, TX where they built a life they truly loved. She enjoyed singing in the choir and becoming very active at the church. They raised cattle that she loved to name and even pet. Her joy was spending time outside working in her yard and just enjoying the sounds and quiet of their land. In 2011 they decided, due to health issues, to move close to Brenda in Magnolia, TX.
One thing she truly loved was each of her three grandkids. She loved each one in their own way. Josh and Gabby loved the outdoors and all that it entailed which she thoroughly enjoyed with them. Kalee loved things inside and she spent many hours enjoying those things with her. Her smile, when she was with them, told how very much she loved each one of them.
Bernita is survived by her son Bobby Bryan Measles (Cindy), daughter Brenda Gayle Mayo (Mark), grandchildren Josh Measles (Ashley), Kalee Measles, Gabrielle Cantrell (Austin) and great granddaughters Elliana Measles and Emsley Measles, and great granddaughter, due July 1, Emery Cantrell, and brother Harold Obenhaus (Ruth) and sister Delores Obermueller.
Bernita is preceded in death by Bobby Gene Measles (husband), parents Adolph and Agnes Obenhaus, sisters- Evelyn Obermueller (Vernon) and Sylvia Abbott (Harvey), and brother in law Virgil.
A very special thank you goes to A Place at Home Woodlands owners, Adam and Trista Johnson, and the many loving caregivers they placed with Bernita. The love they showed can never be repaid. And to Reunion Court memory care unit (Keepsake Gardens). They showed Bernita love like she was their own mom and they loved Bobby just as much even if he didn't live in the memory care (which was important to Bernita). Words can never express how much the family appreciates each one of these people.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bernita Measles to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
