On September 18, 2025, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Bernice Franklin Youngblood, passed away at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife, Linda Youngblood; son and daughter-in-law Byron and Tammy Youngblood; daughter and son-in-law Dan and Lynnice Hockaday; granddaughter and husband Lindy and Mike McKie; grandchildren Travis and Zoe Hockaday; and great-grandchildren Lottie and Piper McKie.  Bernice leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family.

Bernice was born on February 7, 1944 and  grew up in Galena Park, Texas going to Galena Park High and graduated in 1962. He was a receiver on the Galena Park Yellow Jackets football team and that is where he met his wife Linda, who was in the Jackteers Drill Team.  After he graduated from high school he joined the United States Air Force and served in San Antonio, Texas,Topeka, Kansas, Alaska and finally the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  In 1964 he married Linda Gilmore and they lived at the Academy for two years before moving back home to Houston.  While in Houston they lived in the North Shore and Cypress areas.  They also had two beautiful children Byron and Lynnice. They were members of Holy Trinity Methodist church in North Shore and Cypress Methodist Church in Cypress.  Bernice and Linda started square dancing in 1973 and a couple of years later he started calling for the North Shore Spinners, the Conroe Country Cousins and several other clubs in the Houston area.  He purchased a camper trailer and then later a motor home where he very much enjoyed camping and dancing with the Camping Squares.

Bernice worked for Worley Parsons as a Purchasing agent and at Badjco in sales for the Petro-Chemical industry for pipe and valve fittings. He also was an avid Astros fan and loved watching all the games in his condo.

Friends are invited to visit with the family between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. A memorial service celebrating Bernice's life and faith will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 29, at Cypress Methodist Church, 13403 Cypress N. Houston Rd., Cypress, TX 77429.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Cypress Methodist Church, 13403 Cypress N. Houston Rd., Cypress, Texas 77429.
