Obituary

Bernice Kmiec Lewandowski

November 18, 1931-June 5, 2021

Bernice Kmiec Lewandowski, having lived a life full of love and kindness, passed away peacefully at the age of 89.

Bernice was the youngest child born to Wallace and Pearl Kmiec on November 18, 1931 in Chappell Hill, Texas. She married Bruno Lewandowski, also of Chappell Hill and moved to Houston, Texas where together they began their own family of 6 children. Spending early motherhood patiently raising 3 daughters and 3 sons, she later ventured into the workplace where she continued her nurturing spirit tending to plant-life at the J.D. Miller Company and later the Spencer Company. Bernice was as a devout Catholic, attending Mass regularly at Christ the King Church. In her later days, she became an active member of the Colby Senior Group of St. Maximillian Church; the Mass and the Rosary were ever-present during her life.

Throughout her lifetime, her heart, shoulders and ears where always available to anyone who needed them, be they family, friends, neighbors or even strangers. Her greatest joy was a heart-felt conversation after a home-cooked meal, with children about.

Bernice is preceded in death by: her husband Bruno Lewandowski, her daughter Cynthia Bisso, and her grandchildren Angela Haas and Paul Bisso.

Bernice is survived by numerous family members, including her children and their spouses: Catherine and Leo Haas, Jr., John Lewandowski, Gregg Bisso, Mary and Robert Williams, Joseph and Sheri Lewandowski, and James and Heather Lewandowski.

Bernice is survived by her grandchildren: Derrick Haas, (his wife Jennifer), Lindsey Haas, Jaclyn Wood (her husband Tim), Anne Lewandowski, Todd Lewandowski (his wife Yiwen), Laura Byrum (her husband James), Jessica Williams, Brooke Williams, Shannon Williams, Andrew Lewandowski (his wife Malorie), Bryce Lewandowski (his wife Hayley), Joshua Lewandowski and Shane Lewandowski. Also, her great-grandchildren: Luke Haas, William Haas, Charles Haas, Matthew Wood, Andrew Wood, Joseph Wood, Addison Byrum, Aubrey Byrum and Emery Lewandowski.

Bernice's family would like to extend deepest appreciation to her doctors and the caregivers of Creekside Healthy Living Community who skillfully and kindly attended to her around the clock. They are also thankful for the presence of Oasis Hospice Care and the support which they so compassionately provided.

She loved unconditionally and will live on in the hearts of many.
