Barry Kenneth Ross

Texas lost an icon last week.  Barry Kenneth "Ol Bare" died July 13, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.  Born June 12, 1942 he will be remembered as a true American success story.  Indeed he was a man of many talents.  As the owner of Superior Waterbeds he joined his daughter Destiny in inviting each of us to "sleep like a baby on a Superior Waterbed".

Prior to serving in the US Army as an MP in Korea he supported himself by playing pool professionally.  Upon his return to the United States as a veteran he earned enough money from a stint on the television game show "Hollywood Squares" to fund what eventually became the largest waterbed retailer in America.  He changed our Texas sleeping culture.  A 33 year member of Champions Golf Club he was known not only for his proficiency around the green, but also in the locker room for his prowess at gin rummy.

He was a great man, dedicated father, and husband with a generous heart and an uncanny ability to speak the truth, however inconvenient.

He is survived by his wife Tammy Ross, daughter Destiny Lucas, step-daughter Megan Eichner, step-son Clinton Pugh, grandson Marshall Ross Lucas, granddaughter Barri Knight Lucas, step-grandchildren Rylan and Hunter Pugh, and Autumn Eichner.

We Mourn his passing.  We Will miss that Infectious smile, prominent hair, and incisively eloquent wit.  His presence was a daily present to us.  We are certain his slumber is one of peace...like a baby!
