Barbara was born in Houston, Texas on November 22, 1932 where she remained throughout her life. She was the first of three children born to Joseph and Odeal Johns Burton. Her father and grandmother were born in Hockley, Texas and she took pride in her lineage as a 3rd generation Texan.
Barbara graduated from Reagan High School in June of 1951 and on July 21 married the love of her life, John, sharing nearly 50 wonderful years together building a loving family, starting a successful business, and giving back to community through their church. They were an essential part in founding The Community Activity Programs for Seniors (C.A.P.S) at Cypress United Methodist. Their legacy remains as the program continues to serve the senior community with fellowship and fun.
Barbara is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother John Larkin Burton, her sister Catherine Grimes, her husband John, her son Michael and lifetime friend Irene Pantos.
Barbara is survived by Michael's wife Dawn and granddaughter Cori, her son Pat and wife Dottie, as well as her brother-in-law Eddie Grimes and his daughters Cindy and Linda, her dear friend Harriett Sellers, and the Fontenot family.
After the loss of John, Barbara carved out a new life for herself, as she was no longer a daughter or wife and for the first time in 69 years was alone. Her first decision was to sell her home that she and John shared for 26 years and build a smaller one in which she and John's dog Lady shared.
She developed a new life full of travel with her best friend Harriet Sellers, lots of theater and jazz concerts with Dawn's mom Carol; and opened her home to a new man in her life, her little Schnauzer, Max. Her life was filled with her church and as a volunteer for an organization, Family to Family. She became a member of the Fontenot Family and substitute mother and grandmother to Ann and her children John, Rick and Patricia, experiencing great joy and pleasure in being an integral part of their lives.
Our family wishes to thank the many friends and the love and support from everyone at her church, especially Reverend Jim Thompson who has stood by and supported our family through many tumultuous times over the years. There are no words to express the gratitude and love we have for you and your wife Louis.
