Barbara was born August 29, 1935 to Truett and Lois Moore in San Antonio, Texas. She spent her childhood in both Kerrville and San Antonio and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1953. She attended Baylor University for two years and graduated from The University of Texas in 1957 with a Bachelors Degree in Business, where she was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma national honorary business fraternity. She met her husband, Robert Burrell McGee, in Austin in 1957 on a blind date. They were married on August 2, 1958 and started their 62 year journey in Austin.

Barbara and Bob started their family in Colorado, moving around often in the West and eventually settling in Houston in 1971. Barbara and partners started The Apple Tree Preschool in 1972 and she successfully ran this school for 14 years. She has always had a passion for children and was Chairman of Week Day Ministries at Spring Woods UMC, where she and Bob were members for over 40 years.

She spent her life deer hunting, enjoying nothing more than a fall morning in the woods.  She was an avid Texas Longhorn sports fan and traveled the world with her beloved husband, family and friends. Barbara went to Africa 5 times and it was one of her favorite spots on Earth.
