Barbara Ann Head (née Samms), age 82, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at home surrounded by family in Tomball, Texas. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Barbara's life was a testament to faith, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and community. Born on October 29, 1943, in Longview, Texas, Barbara was the oldest daughter of Eric O. Samms Jr. and Kathleen Louise Samms. She grew up in Texas and graduated from Spring Branch High School in the Class of 1962. Her passion for the arts led her to Stephen F. Austin College, where she majored in Drama and participated in theatrical productions that reflected her love for performance and storytelling. Barbara married the love of her life, Troy Head, with whom she shared a remarkable 62-year marriage filled with partnership and devotion. Together they built a life centered around family and faith. In 1981, Barbara played an instrumental role in helping Troy start his own business. For over four decades, she served as the bookkeeper and managed payroll with diligence and care until her retirement. While Barbara's professional contributions were significant, it was her role as a homemaker and mother that truly defined her legacy. She poured her heart into raising their children and later embraced the cherished title of "Mimi" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Troy Head; daughter Leigh Ann Sanderson and son-in-law Paul; grandson Bailey Sanderson;
granddaughter Emily Sanderson; son Erin Head and daughter-in-love Kim; granddaughter Peyton Campbell and grandson-in-law Connor; great-grandsons Briggs Campbell and Whitton Campbell; great-granddaughter Poppy Campbell; daughter-in-love Tammie Mitchell; granddaughter Savannah Head; brother Ronnie Samms and sister-in-law Lanelle; sister Sandi Samms; sister-in-law Glenda Gutierrez and brother-in-law Rudy Sr.; along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Eric O. Samms Jr. and Kathleen Samms, as well as her younger sister Connie Samms Zeman. A woman of deep Christian faith, Barbara lived each day guided by scripture and prayer. She was a devoted student of the Bible who found joy in worshipping God both privately and within the church community when physically able. Even while enduring over 40 years of painful rheumatoid arthritis—a condition she bore with quiet strength-she remained steadfast in service to others. Her generosity knew no bounds: she gave freely to those in need, offered wisdom to those seeking guidance, and prayed fervently for those she loved. Barbara's strong will was matched only by her grace under pressure. She had a unique ability to bring calm to anxious situations with dignity and compassion. Her presence brought comfort to many-whether through a kind word or a helping hand-and she leaves behind a legacy of strength rooted in love. She will be remembered not only as a beautiful soul but also as a faithful disciple of Christ who lived out His teachings daily. Her impact on those around her is immeasurable. May Barbara Ann Head's memory continue to inspire all who knew her to live with faith, courage, generosity-and above all—love.
