Barbara Ann Carrington was a person who had the wonderful gift of laughter and humor which she shared throughout her life with her beloved family and friends.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1934 to Louise and Gilbert Beck. Barbara passed away peacefully from this world over the Christmas Holidays, December 24, 2019.

She is survived by Judith Beck, wife of her only sibling, her brother, Dr. Robert W. Beck (deceased) of Rockville, Maryland. Bob, Judy and Barbara enjoyed reminiscing, and they had a treasury of hilarious family stories that their children never tired of hearing.

Left to cherish her memory are her oldest son, Patrick W. Kistler, his wife Charlotte, son, Kurt S. Kistler and daughter, Lynn Holt-McCune. She leaves two beloved granddaughters, Jessica Kent (husband Austin), and Katherine Kistler and great-grandson Liam, Charlotte's children: Elizabeth (husband Robert and son Kyle), Dylan, Logan and Savannah, one niece, three nephews and their spouses.

Barbara graduated from the Presbyterian University School of Nursing in Pittsburgh where she became the best friend of her classmate Judy O'Donnell. After their graduation, Judy's marriage to Barbara's brother, Bob, brought enormous happiness to them all. The sisters-in-laws remained best friends throughout Barbara's life. After moving to Texas, Barbara earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center of Houston, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She held various nursing positions as a Registered Nurse and her role in the nursing profession was very important to her.

Barbara had a passion for writing humorous poetry and fiction. Some of her work was published. Her talent for writing shone first in Carrick High School where, in her senior year, she penned her award winning column, Carrick Capers. In Houston, she was editor for several enjoyable years of Doubletalk, the monthly publication of The Houston Mothers of twins club. Each issue included one of the witty poems that she had written about twins.

From childhood Barbara loved animals. One of her greatest pleasures was serving as a docent at the Houston Zoo for many years. More recently her joy was spending time as a volunteer with the cats and dogs at Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) in Houston. She spent her later years with her two prized cats, Raleigh and Brianne, who were both selected from CAP.

She was a member of St. Edith Stein Catholic Church. A Mass to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at St. Edith Stein Catholic Church, 3311 North Fry Road, Katy, Texas 77449 at 11AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020. A reception will immediately follow the Mass.
