Obituary

The Lord called Barbara Jessie Bergeson of Cypress, Texas home on March 29th, 2023 after 88 years of joyous life on Earth. She is now resting comfortably in Heaven in the arms of her Lord and Savior surrounded by loved ones who preceded her.

Barbara was known for her cheerful and loving personality, bringing joy and warmth with her wherever she went. She is, and will continue to be, sorely missed by all who have survived her. Always smiling, Barbara cherished her family and friends and found great comfort in spending time with them and keeping up with the current events of their lives. Her life-long devotion to Christ was apparent to all she met, her love of God and her church family was radiant, pure, and strong. After joining Champion Forest Baptist Church in 1981, Barbara felt led to serve and answered that calling by taking various roles in the Senior's ministry and supporting numerous missions and charities over the 42 years she was engaged at the church.

Barbara was born in the Paddington district of London, England on December 28, 1934 to proud parents, Charles George Augustus Pearne and Lily May Durant and raised in Northolt, a town in West London, with her sister Christine. After finishing business school in England and briefly working at the Australian Embassy, Barbara emigrated to the United States at 19 years old and proudly became a naturalized US citizen in May of 1966. Professionally, Barbara spent many years as a secretary at Del Monte Corp. and Solar Turbines Inc. while raising three sons and a stepdaughter. Once her kids were grown, she and her husband Andy traveled the world for business and pleasure. In their travels, they would often visit extended family, attend Navy reunions, explore a new place, and make lifelong friendships like the one they have with the Tariq and Shahnaz Kureshy family. Some of Barbara's fondest travel memories include trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Iran, Denmark, England, Greece, Australia and Grand Cayman.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew Bergeson; and sister, Christine Child. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Geoff Child; sons, Robert McWilliams, Christopher McWilliams and wife Joan, John Zeh and wife Deanna; stepdaughter Jeanette Johnson and husband Melvin; grandchildren Amber D. Holley and husband Brad, Renee Johnson and husband Kyle, Nicole Bell and husband Stephen, John McWilliams and wife Malen, Jeremy Cuevas, Michael Zeh, Christopher Zeh, Chloe Kamies and husband Jon, Emily McWilliams, Claire McWilliams, Ira Burdine, Christopher Morgan; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude for the loving, compassionate care provided by the caregivers and staff at iTrust Home Care and OmegaLife Hospice.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Barbara's Life will be held at 10 am Saturday, April 22, 2023 in the Chapel at Champion Forest Baptist Church, 15555 Stuebner Airline Road, Houston, Texas 77069 with a reception to follow at 11:00 am.
