Barbara Jo Bang was born on September 16, 1956 in Houston, Texas. She was called home on August 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Barbara attended C.E. King High School in Sheldon ISD where she was a member of the drill team. Later in life, Barbara decided to pursue a career in education. She received her Bachelor's degree in Science from the University of Houston and her Texas Educator Teaching Certificate. Barbara loved teaching, was dedicated to her students, and was a great support to her colleagues throughout her career. When she wasn't teaching, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, canning, and spending time with her husband and family.

Barbara and her husband, Robert Bang, shared 22 truly joyful years together. They had an unrivaled love that was obvious to anyone that met them. Their companionship was unique in its endearing closeness. One of their greatest joys was going on adventures together. Whether this meant traveling to beautiful Hawaii or just hopping in the car for a daytrip with no destination in mind.

Barbara was an unpretentious woman with a quiet strength and quick wit. She had a deep love for her entire family; and was a caretaker to all. Her faith in God was prevalent in her every manner, from including everyone at her table for a home cooked meal, listening without judgment, and exhibiting grace in the way that she made everyone feel at home.

Barbara is preceded in death by her mother, Mary McCartney. She is survived by her husband, Robert Bang. Siblings, Donnie McCartney and Joyce Embry. Children, Jacob Gilstrap (wife Jessica), Rebel Smith (fiancé Michael Clements), Mike Carpenter (wife Ashley), John Paul Bang, and Linda Bang (husband Simon Leggett). Grandchildren, Fox Smith, Zachary Gilstrap, Reese Gilstrap, Maelynn Gilstrap, Cara Carpenter, Maya Carpenter, Alyssa Clements, Dustin Clements, and Annabelle Clements.

Her spirit will live on in the stories that people share and in the spirit and resilience of her husband and children. To be graced by her life and challenged by her memory, is our greatest privilege.
