Austin M Thornton Jr. born to his father Austin Sr and his mother Helen. He was the youngest of 3 children. Austin was born in Nutley, New Jersey and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with his family in 1935. He graduated from Hughes High School and went to the University of Miami in Ohio where he obtained a Bachelor of science in Organic Chemistry. Austin was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. A Member of The American Chemical Society. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War with an honorable discharge. He worked at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC, repairing medical equipment during his time of service. He never felt he was deserving of the title Veteran because he had not fired his weapon during the Korean war as it had ended before that service was required of him. Austin finished the rest of his time in the Michigan and Ohio Army Reserve. He began working at Allied Chemical in Ohio where he met Joanne Morris and they were married within a short courtship. They were married in September of 1960. Eventually they matriculated down to Texas where Austin took a job at Plastics Manufacturing Company in 1967. They adopted two children Scott Aaron in 1968 and Janey Elizabeth in 1970. They moved to North Dallas in 1976 and he worked for Cargill until he decided to move to Houston where he became a business owner in 1993 at the age of 63 and continued working until 2009 when he was 79 years of age. He was an extraordinary man who was best known for his kindness, his work ethic and resolve. He was a devoted husband and father. He adored children and always understood that a man's wealth was defined by his family and not his wallet. Austin is survived by his spouse of 62 years and his son and daughter, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was always The beloved Uncle Ozzie by Beverly, Philip Jr., Judy, Vickie, Michael and Sandy, as well as their children. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, and eating in excellent restaurants with his family and friends. He found joy in the people around him. God broke the mold when he made Austin. He will be truly and deeply missed by all of those who loved him. God's speed Austin M Thornton Jr. You are truly an angel amongst men.
