He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Evelyn Pustka.
He was born on November 23, 1930, to August and Augusta Pustka in Houston, Texas. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Houston on December 10, 1933, under Pastor A.J. Meyer. He was later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 2, 1944, under Pastor Elmo E. Miertschin. His confirmation verse was Psalm 26:8. "Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house and the place where thine honor dwelleth."
He was a 1948 graduate of Reagan High School and went on to graduate from the University of Houston. He served in the U.S. Army from March 1951 until March 1953 during the Korean War. On July 25, 1953, he married Evelyn Pogue at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Evelyn went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 1979. On October 10, 1980, he married Jane L. Bachmann in Houston. Over the years, he worked as a Parts Department Manager for Lincoln-Mercury dealerships until his retirement in January 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane Schautschick Bachmann Pustka; eight children, David Pustka and wife Nancy, Brenda Scott and husband Mitch, Stephen Pustka and wife Naomi, Cynthia Roden and husband Brad, Gordon Bachmann, Pamela Messina and husband Ross, Linda Johnson and husband Travis, and Mike Bachmann and wife Cathey; 22 grandchildren, Audrey (Matthew) White, Evelyn Pustka, Vickie Pustka, Nathan Pustka, Garret Roden, Gordon Roden, Paul (Dana) Bachmann, Eric Bachmann, Stacy (Joe) Summers, Krystal (Andrew) Smith, Shelly (Michael) Welch, Craig (Kajay) Garman, Michael (Ashlie) Bachmann, and Christen (Garrett) Houdmann; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan Summers, Cameron Summers, Kinsley Smith, Ashton Smith, Tommy Garman, Brody Garman, Wesley Welch, Hailey Houdmann, Brylee Bachmann, and two more expected within the next four months; brother, J.C. Pustka and wife Maydell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, at Klein Funeral Home - CyFair Northwest, 9719 Wortham Boulevard, Houston, TX 77065. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 14225 Hargrave Road, Houston, TX 77070, with Pastor Steve Henze officiating. Following a brief reception at the church, interment with military honors will take place at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060.
