August Louis Junior Hoffmeister, of Tomball, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born on September 10, 1929, August was a lifelong resident of the Tomball area and a proud member of a pioneering family deeply rooted in the community. He was preceded in death by his parents, August William Hoffmeister and Lillan D. Schroeder Hoffmeister; his sisters, Mary Dee Meyer and her husband Richard, Lillie Mae Gilbert and her husband Roy, and Esther Lee Swenson and her husband Sonny; and by Mary Ann Boney, his wife of 25 years.

August graduated from Tomball High School in 1948 and attended Durum Business College from 1948 to1950. He began his career with Louisiana Gas Company before being called to serve his country in 1951. He proudly served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. Following his military service, he returned to work with United Gas, later known as Entex Gas Company, where he dedicated 40 years of service. During his career, August developed an innovative filing system for records and storage that was later adapted to microfiche.

In 1954, August married Mary Ann Boney, and together they raised three children: Gary, Lori, and Mark Hoffmeister. In 1965, he moved his family to the family farm in Tomball, where they created many cherished memories. Although August and Mary Ann marriage ended in 1980, they remained lifelong friends.

In 1985, August married Mary Sue Zuehlke (Sue), and they made their home in Cypress, Texas. In 1986, he retired from Entex and began a new chapter of life filled with travel and other adventures. August and Sue enjoyed traveling across the United States and were active members of several travel clubs.

August was also a proud member of the Lions Club and the American Legion, where he valued fellowship and community service.

August favorite interest was Hunting, Fishing. He enjoyed playing dominoes, pitch washers, and watching the Houston Astros.

In 2024, August moved to assisted living, where he continued to be surrounded by care and companionship.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dedication to his family, and his love of travel and community involvement.

August is survived by his children: Gary Hoffmeister and wife Cindy, Lori Thomas and husband Brian, and Mark Hoffmeister and wife Pam.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chris Hoffmeister and wife Dorion, Amy Bowdre and husband Scott, John Thomas and wife Amber, Jennifer Escamilla and husband Joey, Keith Hoffmeister and wife Hannah, Kayla Hutcherson and husband Clay, Kyle Hoffmeister.

His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Elisha Ullrich, Ryan Escamilla, Jonah Hoffmeister, Colin Gilmore, Payton Hutcherson, Ellie Thomas, Finley Thomas, Tyler Thomas, Brady Escamilla, Riverly Hutcherson.

August is also survived by his wife, Mary Sue Zuehlke and his stepson, James Zuehlke and wife Debbie. Step grandchildren Jaime Biondillo and husband Nick, Kari Wolfe and husband Brad, and Amanda Zuehlke.
