Armas Joseph Oubre, Sr. went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 while surrounded by loved ones at the home of his daughter, Yvonne. A.J was born on December 11, 1931 to Armas Paul Oubre and Leah Marie Romero in New Iberia, Louisiana. A proud Cajun from birth, even his last meal included crawfish!
A.J.'s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband, incredible father, and adoring grandfather. If you ever had the opportunity to spend any time with him, you walked away better! He was the life of the party but also the man you went to for advice on any and every subject. His pleasant personality meant that he never met a stranger. His cheerful attitude and amazing smile will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served in the Korean War from 1951-1954. During his life he also spent many hours volunteering at the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department and was also a devoted Boy Scout Leader.
A.J. was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Bettie Jo Oubre; his parents, Armas Paul Oubre and Leah Marie Oubre; his son, Armas Joseph Oubre, Jr.; his stepdaughter Laura Hultman Edwards; his 4 sisters and his 3 brothers and grandson Ryan Oubre. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann Oubre; his children, Yvonne Norris and husband Jim Norris, Herbert Oubre, Sr., and wife Connie Oubre; daughter-in-law Leslie Oubre, stepchildren, Karen Hultman, Tom Hultman, Eric Hultman, Sue Hultman, and son-in-law Steve Edwards; his grandchildren, Candice Sanderson, Christina Slay and husband Andrew, Mary Cavalier and husband Jay, Herbert Oubre, Jr. and wife Amanda, and Leah Oubre, Sarah River and husband Aaron; and his 13 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
