Armando Hernandez ("Abuelo") was born in Potrerillos in 1939 where he learned to be a cattleman, businessman, guitarist and sing his favorite rancheras. As a young adventurous man, he experienced many life escapades which gave him the content of the stories he would later tell in life. He met the love of his life, Angela Garcia at a theater in San Pedro Sula. One of Abuelos famous stories was that he stole grandmother and took her to his mother's house in Zacatales. Here, his mother married him to "Angelica" (As he would call grandmother). His adventures then took him to "Las Cañas" and from there to "Los Mangos" but eventually ended up back in Zacatales where they lived in a house that his mother gave him. This is where they raised their five children.
Abuelo truly loved life and lived each day to it's fullest. He took joy in the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed checking on family and friends every day. We're going to miss those random calls asking how we're doing and reminding us to smile and always … always to place God first. Abuelo never complained about anything. He looked at the positives things and focused on that, no matter how grim the situation was. If he was at the hospital, he would always say that he felt great. He loved to play lotto and came up with innovating ways to play. He had a certain amount he would spend but the most important factor, the time of day he wanted to buy those tickets. He would always say that if he won, he would give the money to those in need.
In his later years, when he would visit family and friends, he would always approach someone and ask, "pueden poner Ramon Ayala,Vicente Fernandez, o Jose Alfredo Jimenez." He sang at his son's wedding, his grandchildren's weddings, family gatherings, and to his great grandchildren. He loved to sing and would always stay on beat, his right hand made sure of that. Abuelo was a gentle soul and his grandchildren, including his great grand children gravitated towards him. If he was not singing to them, he was giving them money "para los frescos." He would even give money to his older grandchildren and when we would try to refuse, he would insist in an authoritarian voice, "no le tenga miedo al pisto." Abuelo will be missed because he was a noble soul, compassionate and gentle man. He was a good father, a loving grandfather, and a soothing great grandfather. May he dance and sing in the kingdom of heaven where he craved to be, by his heavenly father.
