Armand James "Jim" Lombardi was born on January 1st, 1932 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania. His parents emigrated from Casalciprano, Italy. His father Nunzio was a tailor and his mother Mary was a homemaker. Jim had an older brother, Eugene and sister, Nancy. He attended grade school and high school in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania and married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Kathleen "Kathy" Greeley Lombardi on June 6th, 1953. In 1951, Jim began his career in the mail room at US Steel Corporation and was quickly promoted to the Purchasing Department. He attended college at night, and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration - Economics from the University of Pittsburgh on June 8th, 1960. He continued his career with US Steel and was promoted to Sales Representative in Chicago, Illinois in 1969. In 1975 Jim was promoted to Manager – Petrochemicals for the Southwest Region and moved the family to Houston. For the following seven years, Jim moved through a quick succession of promotions - Marketing Manager-Aromatics, Director of Purchasing, Business Manager and General Manager-Petrochemicals, responsible for a $160 million business which included sales, distribution, feedstock acquisition, and plant operations for 10 major products. Jim also traveled the world directing the $35 million petrochemical export sales and import feedstock purchasing for ARISTECH (formerly US Steel Chemical). After retirement in 1990, Jim continued in the industry as a consultant and was on the Board of Directors for Creekside (Oxid) Chemical.
Jim was accomplished at wood working and furniture building, enjoyed ping pong, billiards and was an avid golfer. Remarkably, Jim had two hole-in-ones on the same hole at Champions Golf Course, just days apart! He was devoted to his wife and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage and happiness together. He and Kathy enjoyed a lifetime of very dear friends. Jim loved being with his family.
Jim and Kathy have a son, James Lombardi and daughter-in-law, Kathy, and a daughter Lori Lombardi Mauer and son-in-law Ken. They have six grandchildren; Brooke Deek, Stephanie Floren, Katie Harris, Cole Cropper, Taylor Lombardi and Jocelyn Cropper. Jim and Kathy also have five great-grandchildren; Caleb Floren, Caton Deek, Hudson Harris, Aubrey Floren and Emerson Harris and Eli Deek arriving in November.
He touched so many lives in his 85 years of his life but none more profoundly than his family. His smile, his humor and wisdom will be missed, but never forgotten.
Rest in peace Dad, grandfather, father-in-law, friend and mentor. We know you are in heaven with God and your loved ones that greeted you.
