Arlene Ann Bonney

February 27, 1940 – April 27, 2022

The Woodlands, TX – Arlene Ann Canale Bonney, 82, wife of Charles Edward Bonney, went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2022 at their home in The Woodlands, TX.

In 1940, Arlene was born in Amsterdam, NY to Peter and Amelia Canale, where she spent her growing years. As a young adult she worked for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY. Arlene met Charles Bonney, a young Naval officer from Texas, while he was stationed in New York. They married on September 4, 1965. Arlene was preceded in death by her brother Edward Canale in 1982. In addition to her beloved husband, Arlene is survived by her three children Sheryl (Mike) Voigts of Wilmore, KY, David Bonney of Schertz, TX, and Laurie (David) Truitt of West, TX, and her grandchildren Daniel (Natalie) Voigts, Julianne (Cole) Voigts-West, Connor Truitt, Brian Truitt, and numerous nieces and nephews.

As an adult, Arlene had a deep love for Christ and would rise every day to spend time with God in Bible study and prayer. Arlene had the spiritual gift of humility, presenting herself as she was without trying to impress others. People would open their lives to Arlene wherever she was, whether at church or in a grocery line. Perhaps this approachability is why so many women were drawn to her; and for many of them she served as an informal spiritual mentor.

Arlene was active and in leadership of Bible Study Fellowship for many years in both Kingwood and in The Woodlands. She and Charles were among the early members of Kingwood United Methodist Church. When Charles and Arlene lived in Wassenaar, The Netherlands for several years, they attended Trinity International Baptist Church near The Hague. The international community of The Netherlands broadened her love for people around the world, and she grew to embrace the intercultural Christian community. When she and Charles retired to The Woodlands, they became active members at Crossroads Baptist Church, where they led Adult Bible Fellowship classes for several years.

In her early life, Arlene took up painting, a gift she inherited from her father. Her family still cherishes her framed works of art. Arlene's love of flowers and floral arranging increased while living in The Netherlands, and tulips remained a favorite of hers for the rest of her life. Arlene loved her family and while she was known for her letters and cards, she was famous for Italian cooking, which she loved to prepare for family and friends.

A service celebrating her life in Christ will be held on Saturday, May 14 at Crossroads Baptist Church in The Woodlands at 11:00 am with a time of Visitation beforehand at 10:00 am.
