Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, yet fond memories, that we announce the passing of Archibald Dodd Begg, who departed this world surrounded by loving family, on September 20, 2026, at the age of 85. Archie was born on September 3, 1941, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Albert and Sadie Begg. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose legacy of love, family, friendship and laughter will be cherished forever.

Archie shared 64 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jeanne Begg. Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Archie was a devoted father to Jacqueline Davis and her husband, David; Stephen Begg and his wife, Jaydee; and Graham Begg. He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Powell (Lowell), Stephanie Marek (Christopher), Jarren Begg, Sarah-Jane Spyrka (Jason), Ian Begg (Lane), Lauren Begg, and Duncan Begg. He was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren: Knox, Jack, Quinlyn, Emerson, Olivia, Eisley, William, Lilah, Finn, Logan, and Dean.

Archie spent his professional life dedicated to engineering, a career he passionately pursued until his retirement in 2012. His work was not just a job but a reflection of his meticulous nature, creative mind and common sense approach to life.

In 1979 he moved his family from Scotland to Houston, Texas for what was initially proposed as a two-year assignment. It became much more…

A lifelong lover of soccer, Archie devoted more than 30 years to coaching the sport he had played and loved. Through those years, he gave generously of his time and energy, sharing not only his knowledge of the game but also the values of teamwork, commitment, discipline, and perseverance. Archie's contributions to the soccer community were significant, as he was also a co-founder of the Texans Soccer Club. For the many young people he coached, he was more than a coach, he was a mentor and a positive influence whose impact extended far beyond the soccer field.

Archie was a proud member of the Bayou City Loyal Rangers Supporters Club, sharing his love of Glasgow Rangers with family, fellow enthusiasts and making lifelong friendships along the way.

As a passionate admirer of Robert Burns poetry, Archie founded the Bonnie Jeanne Burns Club, named in honor of his wife. His annual Burns suppers, hosted in their home were legendary, complete with Scottish traditions, fare and entertainment. He poured himself into that event, making it an annual highlight for their guests.

His frequent trips to Disney World with his great-grandchildren and adventurous outings to Las Vegas with Jeanne and other loved ones are fondly remembered.

His sense of humor and quick wit was second to none, always ready with a joke to lift spirits and bring smiles. Archie was not only a family man but also a friend to many, known for his welcoming nature and genuine kindness. Family was at the heart of Archie’s life, and he took great pride in watching his family grow through the generations. His love, laughter, guidance, and generous spirit will continue to live on in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.

He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Sadie Begg, and his brother, Albert Begg Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Archie's memory to a charity of your choice.

Rest peacefully, Archie. Your laughter, your love, and the memories you gave us will live on in our hearts and through the generations you leave behind.
