Obituary

Annie Mae Mertz

Born December 1, 1934 – New Willard, TX

Passed Away June 12, 2025 – Conroe, TX

With love and deep appreciation, we celebrate the legacy of Annie Mae Mertz, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved great-grandmother. Ann passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family.

Ann was the embodiment of warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith. She embraced life with an open heart and by maintaining close bonds with her five siblings. Married to her beloved husband for over 47 years, their bond was a testament to love and loyalty. Her 25-year career at Southwestern Bell Telephone broke barriers as the first female in the Houston area to manage an outside field crew.

Ann found joy in sharing with others through thoughtful gestures, encouragement, and her inspiring love of books. She took every opportunity to engage in games with friends and family and to travel. Ann took immense pride in her children and grandchildren's achievements and was excited for her great-grandchildren's futures. She cherished every moment shared with loved ones.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Buford and Addie Jane Hill, her husband, Eugene Mertz, and her brothers, Charles Hill and Kenneth Hill. Her spirit lives on in those she leaves behind: her sisters, Valia Jane Smith and Eloise Byers; her children, Kerry Armstrong and husband David, Doug Mertz and wife Dana, and David Mertz and wife Whitney; her grandchildren and their spouses – Marissa (and Chris), Colby (and Ryan), Logan, and Reagan (and Kevin); her great-grandchildren, Kase, Kylar, Eugene, Calum, Blair, and Liam; and, many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ann's life was defined by her faith in Christ, love, laughter, and an unshakable devotion to family and friends. We extend heartfelt gratitude to Wayne and Dona Scott and so many other wonderful neighbors and caring friends whom Ann loved. While she may no longer walk beside us, her legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love will endure in our hearts forever.
