Anne Lee Abney

Anne Elizabeth Lee Abney passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018. Services will be held at Klein United Methodist Church in Spring, TX, at 2pm on March 18 th with reception at the church to follow. The graveside service will be held Monday, March 19 th at 11 am at Klein Memorial Park in Magnolia where she will be buried with her late husband, James Baxter Abney.

Anne was born on October 30, 1925 in Mayersville, MS, the daughter of Alice Gray Wade and Israel Sylvester Lee. She grew up in the Mississippi delta, enjoying all that life on the cotton farm had to offer. After completing college in 1947 at Mississippi College for Women, she moved to Jackson, MS, to live with her aunt and to work as a bookkeeper. There, she met Jim on a blind date. Jim promptly took her home to meet his family and they were married shortly after on April 9, 1950. They resided in Jackson for two years until James, who worked for an oil company, was transferred to Monroe, LA. From there they moved three more times, to Lafayette, LA, to Parkersburg, WVA, for nine years, and then to Spring, TX, in 1976, where they resided for the remainder of their 67 years together. Jim died in August 2016.

Anne was a beautiful and gracious lady who touched the lives of all she met with kindness and gentleness. Anne was proficient at everything she attempted and had a can-do, positive attitude. Taking care of and providing for her family was her top priority. She excelled at all varieties of needlework and took great joy in creating beautiful, useful things, including exquisite crocheted cloths for the church alter. Since 1992, Anne made personalized cross-stitched commemorations for each new baby baptized at the church. Her detailed records show the last of the 665 commemorations was completed just a week before her death.

Until very recently, Anne played golf with her friends at WillowCreek Golf Club and was most proud of her hole-in-one. She also very much enjoyed gardening and helped Jim with the annual crop of tomatoes and beans. Growing roses, however, was her favorite.

Anne will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Israel Sylvester Lee, III, his wife, Sally Lee, and her brother, Dunbar Wade Lee. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Abney, Alice Abney Elledge, and her husband, Clay Elledge, and James Abney, Jr., his wife, Debbie, and her sister-in-law, JoAnn Lee of Mayersville, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jennifer Abney Martin, her husband, John Martin and their children, Sawyer James and Colette Anne, Lauren Abney Spence and her husband, Jacob Spence, Allison Abney, Shane Elledge, his wife, Ashlee and their children, Madison Faith, Bryce Trevor, and Liam Tyler, and Eric Elledge and his wife, Christen Cabe Elledge.
